internal install of portable sat nav

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm replacing my head unit in my 2000 Fabia and was thinking that whilst I'm at it I should see if It's possible to do a diy install of the satnav power cable so I can keep my lighter free and the car tidy.

I was thinking of something similar to the halfords integrated sat nav install available here.

Has anyone attempted this and if so is there a guide i can find anywhere?

Cheers

Lou

There was some discussion about this over in the Octavia forums.

See:

and

I followed the instructions on the second thread to install a 12v socket in the fuse box, and then the cable runs out to a Brodit holder to the right of my steering wheel.

I used these parts to do a neat job:

"Blade Fuse Piggy Back By Pass Connector" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330417642445

"12V Cigarette Cigar type Accessory Power Socket" http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140417431456

Although the 12v socket didn't come with any leads, so I had to solder some on. If I was doing it again I'd probably buy one with wires on to make it quicker to install.
