Fuel sloshing in the tank!

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Ive just moved back to a vRS Hatch after two years in the estate and whilst the hatch is generally much quieter I noticed today quite a loud sloshing noise of the fuel during low speed manoeuvring. This wasn't the case with the estate and while I can remember the rain leaking into the boot on opening the hatch I don't recall the fuel noise. Does anyone else get this sloshing sound?

Weirdly, I noticed this yesterday after filling the tank on my CR 140 estate...

It's actually quite loud at slow speeds and happens even when driving gently.

Yep, Have noticed exactly the same.

In my previous Octy Sport hatch, no sloshing noises at all from tank, but regularly hear sloshing from the new FL Vrs estate, when slowly driving into the garage.

:o sounds like they've forgotten to put the baffles in!!

Are the tanks not filled with foam? I don't think they're empty voids but maybe i'm wrong

Mine definitely sounds like an empty space filled with liquid...

Looking at the sigs / cars of everyone who's posted, Is this unique to the diseasal engine?

Mine does it, diesel vRS, but I only notice when I am putting into the garage (also with a relatively full tank).

From everyone that has replied so far it does appear to be FL diesels, also I only noticed it since filling the tank.

Not noticed sloshing as yet.

Will listen later on.

Maybe the road noise is drowning it out?

I have the limited edition CR diesel (so pre-facelift) and this has been bugging me for the last few days. I'm guessing it's nothing to be too concerned about? An annoyance rather than a fault???

Filled mine up a last night and noticed this when I was driving around today.

As said, noticeable when low speed manoeuvring. Mines a 2006!

Oh well, I suppose it's just an excuse to turn the stereo up even louder! ;)

Yep, i've got this added "feature" on my FL vRS CR estate. I'm glad i'm not the only one.

So glad I'm not going mad. Wasn't even sure what to search for - put in "fuel tank sloshing" and got this thread. Have got fairly full tank and can hear it - will listen out when nearly empty. Mine is FL TDI hatch.

It's not water in the doors is it?like the problem a lot of rapid owners are reporting',,',,,,,,,,,,,,,

A few owners have reported this. It only seems to happen with a really full tank. If you don't fill beyond the point where the pump first clicks off, it rarely happens. I've had a set of chassis ears on the fuel tank and the sloshing noise is coming from the area where the filler neck meets the tank.

Mine sloshes when the tank is between 1/2 and 3/4 full. I assume it is down to the saddle tank in the 4x4.

Yes, but on the 4x4 it can sound more like pouring water.

Mine does this too. Glad it appears to be "normal".

Not diesel specific, I've noticed this sometimes, mines a 1.4 tsi

You're right, I hadn't really thought of it that way.

It's normal don't worry about it.

But this is very annoying. So is there no way of stopping this sound. what is the precaution of avoiding this?
