Intermittant boost. (still...grrrr)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Posted before about probs with my boost on my remapped vrs. Boost doesn't cut out under load, it will feel fine its only the next time you come to put your foot down there is no boost at all. Booting it around town doesnt seem to affect it, I notice the problem occurs most on motorways at 60 - 80 mph when I come to overtake the boost has dissapeared. And sometimes will not regain any boost for ten mins, some times all day when I am around town again, then will suddenly re-appear.

I have changed the plugs, all the ignition coils, the Y shaped pipe on the top right of the engine, which is known for spliting, The recirc dump valve is new (aftermarket aluminium one) and also I have a brand new N75 valve (standard F).

Does anyone have any othe rideas of what it could be? Im getting bored of changing everything to no avail! pipes are all tight with new clips on the N75 and the Recirc DV.

Could it possibly be a sticking wastegate on the turbo venting my boost?

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

John

Pipes under the inlet manifold?

Do you have anyone near you with VAG-Com that can do a boost log on the car?

I think to check the wastegate operation you'd need to have it on a rolling road to do a visual check that the actuator rod is moving as it should be.

The other possiblity is the car is overboosting for some reason and the ECU is using the N249 to vent boost via the DV, although you'd probably hear that boost being released and get an overboost fault code.

It could be the map. My original map boosted very hard very early, it would pull to the red line through the gears OK but the next time I went to boot it there would be nothing. The tuner dialled the boost onset back a bit and its much better now. What map do you have on the car?
