Fabia won't start when engine warm

Featured Replies

My V-reg (2000) Fabia Comfort 1.4 8V has developed a problem when starting from warm. The engine turns but doesn't start. Just had a service and MOT done. Any suggestions?

I also noticed that it sometimes takes 4-5 miles for the temperature to reach the middle position (even on warm days). I bought a thermostat and will replace this soon. Could the 2 be related?

Thanks,

Peter

Yep

The hot start issue could be the temp sender, it will read as cold when the engine is hot and overfuel hence the lack of starting.

The stat sounds like it's playing up as well from your description, I'm an 1.8t my man myself so I may be a little off the mark here lol

It seems to be quite common for temp senders to fail too. This would usually bring up a fault code in VCDS.

I've changed mine recently for a febi one (which I believe are the OE manufacturers) but noticed it seems to have a little difficulty starting when warm (but no fault codes) so wondering if I should try changing it again for one from a dealers.

I had the temp sender replaced twice in my Mk1 Fabia.

Part number is 06A 919 501. I am not sure if part number 06A 919 501 A supersedes it (I'd hope a Skoda dealer would get it right if ordering without the letter A on the end anyway).

Edit: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/61178-fabia-coolant-temp-sensor-how-to/ says letter A on end is correct one.

It won't always show a fault. You know somethings wrong when the engine is hot and the measuring block shows that the temperature is -10 degrees C. Why can't the ECU work that one out?

Great stuff. Thanks everyone. Just got my old diagnostic software to work again and there was indeed a fault re the temp sender...
