Hello,

Yes, they certainly are part VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group - along with Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche and Seat) and share many components including the engines. It doesn't take long to find a VW or Audi logo in the engine bay. The 1.2 engine has the VW logo stamped on the top of the cam cover.

They have been part of the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) for around 8 years now and share many components from the VAG parts bin including the very good engines.

Yes. And like a lot of conglomerates, design and manufacture gets increasingly disributed around the group. A few years ago, most of the mechanical bits were I think mostly VW in origin, especially for the VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat core, and the brands were made in their "home" countries eg Seats were generally made in Spain.

Now, I think the VW group's 1.2 engines are made in a Skoda factory in the Czech republic (although it may have a VW logo on it!) and IIRC the group has opened factories in Slovakia, Russia and Ukraine where some cars of different marques are made.

I belive all Yetis and most Skodas are still made in the Czech republic

I seem to remember as well that the area of the group develops something or some technology then has exclusive rights to it for 6 months before other areas of the group can use it. A specific example is the PD100 engine that Skoda developed in 2001 was used in the Fabia before it became available in the Golf or A3 etc.

They have been fully owned by vw for 20 years and have connections to most vw group brands long before this. The first VW made skoda' appeared in about 1996.

Dave, it's a LOT longer than 8 years!! More like 18!!

i had many a skoda back in the 80's/90's...loved em...then bought a felicia when vw first got involved....worst car i had, always let me down...havnt had a skoda since, but a yeti test drive blew me away..so as of next weds im back in skoda ownership and cant wait....miss my rear engined estelle's and rapids

A little pedantic I know but does my head a little.... VAG stands for Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. That means it's a German corporation. The AG on the end is like Inc. at the end of an American corporation's or Ltd for UK.

Audi is owned by the Volkswagen Group but has a much high automony over its product range than it's over brands and is the "technology developer" for the group.

To be pedantic, actually the AG means both. The equivalent of Ltd in Germany, and also Volkswagen Audi Group in the UK.. They actually used it on some of their adverts.

Lee,

must find some photos of my Rapid.

Like you I owned various Skodas in the past. Yellow Rapid, then later a Favorit Estate, then a Felicia from the era just after VAG took over. That one only got scrapped early last year with 125k on the clock. Never thought I would go back to them, but saw the advert for the Yeti and realised it fitted what we need. Then took a test drive, then saw how it coped on the Wales Adventure. All I need to do know is sort out the finances.

hehe...i had an orange 105, an orange 130 gl ex rally car( used to do lombard rally many moons ago)..a black rapid..followed by 3 fav's inc a great estate that towed caravans all over the uk,,finally a new first release red felicia that failed spectacular withing months of buying( garage went bust and i was left with it).....so fingers crossed the yeti is like my first 6 skoda's....

Sorry but I and Audi at the Inglostadt Factory tour beg to differ. However thats for a seperate thread. Audi has never been a equal member in the group and has always been "owned" by Volkswagen.... not a partner.

You may be right, BUT when they first took over Skoda they used the words "Volkswagen Audi Group" in the Press releases and in their publicity.

More likely the journos did and not the company.

Don't forget Volkswagen's latest addition (part owned) - Suzuki. Gives them a further presence in developing markets. The VW family tree is a tangled web indeed. Audi is certainly owned and part of the VW group but, in turn, Lamborghini is (or was) 'owned' by Audi.

No, not the journalists, since at the time my best friend was the Area Sales Manager for Skoda in the North West of England, and I was working with the Skoda GB Rally Team. I'm sure I can remember seeing on documents from them.

You must have had a lemon, my son has had 2 1.3 litre fellys; they are cracking little cars for the money. Fairly basic, but reliable and 45-50mpg is not to be sneered at.

we sure did....anyways after 13 yrs or so...were back to skoda's :smirk:

Me to. Two 1.3 saloons and a 1.3 estate. Toured all over Europe with them and never, ever let down.
