Felicia Combi 1.3 LX - Electric problem

Featured Replies

Here's what happens:

Out of nowhere, I lose the lights, the wipers and pump, and everything except "blinkers" and positioning lights...

And, out of nowhere, after a while, they come back...

Any idea what to look for. I checked all fuses and they seem to be in order...

Could anyone lease send tme the RELAY description again? I seem to have lost it... :(

ANY HELP IS MORE THAN APPRECIATED!!!!

THANK YOU...

sounds like the yellow cable connecting to the starter motor has come loose? thats what id check first

Sounds like an "Earthing" problem; cars use the metal chassis as part of the earth return to the battery, so check the return from the fuse board, dash etc for a loose connection.

Headlights go through a relay in the fuse box, sidelights/indicators dont, that is your clue.

It probably just needs cleaning or tightening, although it might be corrosion.

I checked everything and it seems OK...

Briskodian - WHAT yellow cable to look for?!?

Could it be a BAD RELAY?!?

find the starter motor in the engine bay, think it was on the right near the gearbox somewhere. there is a yellow cable leading from it. check this connection. i had the same problems recently and this is what it was, seems to be rather common?

if you have problems finding it ill find/take a pic. hope this helps

yes the yellow wire to the starter motor breaks usually and this believe it or not actually earths the relay for the ign side of things, hence why the lights and wipers etc go off when cranking the engine.

give the wire a gud pull it usually breaks where its crimped to the spade connector

OK - I went to the mechanics... They found out a fault relay was causing the problem, and they replaced it...

It was ALL OK - but now I got only long lights (not regular ones)... The regular lights work ONLY on a specific position of the switch (behind the steering wheel, I don't know how to call it in english)... :(

Could it be that the long/short light switch is faulty?!?

I used contact spray - no results.... :(

DAMN...

i've got a set of the official skoda wiring digrams, i'll try and figure out a way of posting up that diagram.. the problem will be related to the x-contact relay (and that yellow wire mentioned)

I put the old relay that they took out yesterday - the old relay is WORKING!!!

So, it looks like they were lucky to have everything OK when they replaced the relay, but my old relay is OK (no need for replacing). :wonder:

The car worked ok until I drove on hard terrain - I think something is coming loose and it's cosing the problem.

I doubt it's the switch on the left (behind the ) steering wheel, since it works perfect (it worked until now)...

I hate to go there, and leave money for replacement of working parts... :o

Please HELP...

rough/hard terrain? sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere then, possibly a loose earth wire.. check the one that goes from the right hand end of the engine block to the riight hand chassis rail

I've checked all the earth wires where the motor is... And so did the mechanics (I see traces of spray on them)...

Everything seems to be in order... I also sprayed the connectors that go into the dashboard... That didn't seem to help either...

So - the problem remains: I don't have regular lights (just long lights) no matter the position of the switch (for regular or long lights). When I give the signals for turning right, the long lights go out, and when the car is out of the curve (the switch goes back in place for regular lights) the long lights appear again...

It's SOOO frustrating... I really have no idea where to look, and it seems that the mechanics I'm consulting here don't have any idea too.....

:'( :'( :'(

have you had the fusebox out at any point? you may have reconnected a plug in the wrong place

  • Author

Nope - the fuse box was in place all the time...

It seems that I have no other option than to take the Felicia back to the mechanics first thing Tuesday... :(

can we just confirm the yellow cable from the starter motor was checked? mine was dislodged with the help of a speedbump.

its possible the fixing itsself is still intact, but the wire inside broken. still not 100%, but the more you say, the more it sounds like exactly what i had

Could You post a picture of what to look for J242?!?

I checked the yellow cable, and it seemed OK... But I don't know where it ends n the fusebox, so I can make measures to be sure... :(

The column switch (finally found how it's called) is stuck on long lights, no matter its position...

So, if the column switch needs changing - HOW do I do that?!?

I had the switch fail on mine and the symptom was the full beam (long lights as you call them) coming on when indicating left.

To replace you have to remove the steering wheel (just two screws to remove the airbag and one bolt to remove wheel)

Then remove the top and bottom steering column cover so you can acces the switch and replace. Very simple.

And what about the wires? Do I attach them one by one, or there's a whole connector that attaches them all at the same time to the column switch?!?

Does anybody have pictures of what to do and how to do it?!?

Thank You...
