Front Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

I have ordered front & rear parking sensors on my Octy vRS, I have seen rears in action on the Bolero radio on someone elses vRS.

I am not sure how the fronts activate, & display ?

If you get too close to the car in front when driving do they warn you ?

Any info would be useful

Thanks

The rear ones activate when you select reverse. The front one will not work when driving too close to the car in front. You can turn the parking sensors on/off with a button in front of the gear stick. I have front and rear pdc on my vrs and they are great. The display is the same for both front and back. From memory if you are in 1st gear and going slow enough you can turn on the front ones.

The front sensors work when you are moving slowly and in 1st or reverse gear. You get a display on the Belero stereo indicating what zone the the object is in. So close, very close or Red zone (don't move). The zones also have middle, left and right so you get an idea if an object is not stright on or much nearer in one sector. You also have a switch on the center console to turn the system on / off.

If you have Maxidot you can change the volume and pitch of the tones so the front allarm can be distiguished from the rear one.

I hope this helps.

In my 2010 Octavia Scout:

There is a button to turn on the parking sensors - I think it turns on both front and rear at the same time. If you select reverse it also selects it automatically.

You can turn them off again at any time by pressing the button. They also turn off automatically when you're going fast enough (about 10mph I think) - and you can't turn them on unless you're going below that speed.

If you have maxi-dot then you can change how loud the sensor bleeps are - and select the volume of front and rear independently. The front and rear beeps have a different pitch, and again with maxi-dot you can change what pitch it uses.

If you have the Bolero stereo then the distance is displayed graphically on the screen, both front and rear work the same. Also the Bolero can be set to make the music quieter when the sensors are active so you can hear them better.

I've noticed when parallel parking that if I put it in reverse both the front and rear sensors beep as you get near to the cars in front and behind. But when I take it out of reverse only the front ones beep. Which makes sense considering what you're doing - very nicely designed.

There are 4 sensors at each end, and the display shows the distance from each sensor to the obstacle with coloured blocks - the blocks turn red and the beeps go continuous when you are close to something. For front and rear distance, that happens about 1 foot (30 cm) away. But for the side sensors (at least at the front) it seems to be more like 6 inches (15 cm), which is useful for parking in a small garage. I haven't tested the sensitivity of the side sensors at the rear, as I never reverse into my garage.

Hope that helps.

Thank You very useful, specially as i have ordered maxidot

The rear parking i saw with the bolero broke the display into 4 sections & the distance from statioary object was showing slightly different for the corner that he middle, wasnt sure if it displayed the same on the front, but you have cleared that up. :D
