Question about 312mm brakes...

Featured Replies

Do you have to tell the insurance if you change to 312mm discs and calipers? Just wondering as I would have thought one could class them as items that will wear out, straight replacement as it were - and also it doesnt add performance... what do you think?

probably best if you do have a word with them about it paul, as it does kind of increase the performance of the car. But it's down to you if you choose to or not.

Hmm yes, thought that *might* be the case but wasnt sure... but I am perhaps thinking of getting some one day as the brakes do seem to be a weakness of the car (awaits the usual modification related flaming.... ;))

ANY modification to your car must be declared. Otherwise your insurance is void and you maise well not have it.

What about my MSD grill? It's certainly not performance enhancing, or makes the vehicle any more valuable, and would probably cost less to replace than the standard grill. I've not declared it, as in my opinion it's purely cosmetic. In the event of a front enf shunt I suppose they would just replace it with a standard one.

Hes right...

if there is any part of the car that deviates from standard specification ANY part... cosmetic or mechanical you need to clear it with the insurance company. :)

Tell them about EVERYTHING!

It's better to be safe than sorry.

But where do you draw the line?

Should I tell them about my magic tree freshner? It does give me an extra 2bhp after all ;)

technically yes you should mats the lot

I'm not disagreeing with anyone here, you are all correct - to ensure full insurance cover, tell 'em everything. However, I have a sneaky suspicion that each time you tell them you've added something they'll change their records and impose a
