Supermarket fuel

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just had to fill up with Morrisons (normal Ron) fuel, have to say, havn't really noticed a difference yet? I used Vpower for the last month since I have owned the car. It seems to be as smooth and as far as I can tell, just as nippy.

Travelled from Sheffield to east midlands airport and back so a good test.

Looks like I might save myself some cash and stick with it, anybody else had any issues with using the normal fuel in the vRS?

Cheers

Some say the V-Power works well in their cars, others say it makes no difference.

I had a 3.0 V6 and it ran rough on anything other than V-Power and a lot of other owners said the same. However, I also have use of a 1.6 Astra (jealous? Nah didn't think so  ) and it runs fine on regular cheapo fuel. Suppose it's down to your engine.

You could well still be feeling the residual benefits of V-Power fuel right now though. After four or five fill ups on economy fuel, see what gives.

lol,

I cant stand 95 ron fuel mate, My car feels so flat and rough its unbelievable.

I use Sainsbury's 97 as its the cheapes super around. Vpower is nice but overpriced and 99 from Tesco is similar.

On a std map car I used 95 no probs and it ran fine with good eco. But even on generic maps Ive had it was ok.now I have the sig mods(+ few more) I find it false econemy to use 95 ron as I need to travel at 55 ish to get decent mpg where as the car runs better and gets better MPG at 55 than using 95 ron. so I can travel faster and get same figures, fact better.

was gettin 6.5-7 mpl on 95 on the same run to work but now on 97 I get 7.6+ best Ive had was 8.4 the other week.

Mine runs like a dog on 95 RON, and thats on a standard map. Ok maybe "runs like a dog" is an exaggeration but when I've run it on 95 RON and then put 98 or 99 RON back in it it feels much quicker.

It might take a tankful or more of 95 RON in yours before the ECU adapts to it and starts retarding the ignition timing.

With 99 RON I get 20 miles more to the tank than I do with 95 RON.

As regards supermarket fuel, I usually use Tesco 99 just because it's been cheaper than VPower where I live and I get Clubcard points. Although saying that the VPower near me has dipped to a penny or two cheaper than the Tescos stuff in the last couple of months.

I find no differance either. Tried a couple of tank fulls of v power and normal stuff, performance has remained the same and fuel econamy has dropped to 36.8mpg instead of 37.0mpg. So i'm keeping to the normal stuff for now

I find my car goes longer and runs a little quicker with Tesco Momentum 99. I like V-power but I work for Tesco so soon as I finish work I can go straight there rather than 5/10minutes out of my way for V-power.

Whats the point of buying a turbo car, with a bit of performance, then putting crap fuel in it? Its says use 98ron on the fuel flap, why not use it. If you want lower performance using 95ron maybe you've bought the wrong type of car.

Thing is I haven't lost any noticable performance what so ever, so what's the point in spending extra???

Mind you i don't thrash my car so maybe that's where you notice it??

Can't say i have noticed much difference in either performance or mpg regardless of what fuel i use, although i understand that even with v power the performance gain isn't that great, so not really surprised. It is easy to convince yourself that it is better because that is what you have been told and perhaps you also would like to believe

Saying all that, i still use vpower about 50% of the time as the fuel is supposed to also have other additives which are good for your engine. Again, whether this really makes any difference - no idea, but i still want to believe. :giggle:

but you see its not a performance gain its how it SHOULD be the differance you are feeling is the loss that normal fuel is giving you....

Not had my vRS that long,.. It came with a full tank from the dealer as part of the purchase agreement, which will no doubt have been 95 RON from wherever,.. I ran that until the low fuel warning light came on, then filled it to the brim with Tesco's Momentum 99RON, so far I've only used 1/4 of a tank of that. I can't say as I've noticed any difference,... How soon should any benefits be evident?, pretty much straight away?, or should I run a good few tankfuls through the car before making any judgement??,..

Thanks for all the thoughts

Kenny - That would make sense if I noticed a drop in performance, my point is I dont so why would I use 98 rather than normal and a fuel additive every couple of months? Also the Morrisons on my drive home so dont have to divert for fuel:thumbup:

My filler cap says 98/95 so i guessed it was either/or is that right?

I read loads of stories about how slow the octavia vRS feels on normal fuel, but I guess everycar is different.

When I ran the Fabia Vrs it made absolutely no difference whether i used vpower or normal diesel, maybe a placebo effect the first time but thats normal...

cheers

Well I topped up the otherday with Momentum 99 and I got 33.35 litres out of £40 @ £1.19 a litre.

So if I got 95 ron @ £1.15 (at the time) so out of £40 I would get 34.78 litres, so for the sake of 1 litre and better performance then I would rather go for 99ron.

I have tried Vpower in the past and found that rubbish in my mapped VRS and this is why maybe you see no difference when running 95 tesco??

Try using Tesco momentum or another SU brand and then compare you might see a noticable difference.

These cars are meant to run on 98 ron or higher, and especially mapped motors. Like Billy found my car just does not like 95 ron now and performance drop is very noticable on mine.

My standard vrs runs much better on super unleaded than regular unleaded & i get better mpg using it. i had no choice a while back & had to put regular unleaded in & the difference was very noticable! :)
