30K Service

Featured Replies

That time of year again and the same old song.

I phoned 3 different Skoda dealers, within 20 mile of home. The first one quoted me £190 for full service, until I mentioned that I thought it was just a small (oil change) service...........oh yes it is.....£95.

The second one said £80 as it is just an oil change service.

The third one said £200 until I said it was just an oil change, then down to £110. I said that was high and I had a quote for £80, guy said I ll take your number and speak with the boss (heard this one before). Any phoned back and said they could do it for £82 (about 28% off), I said i will phone back.

Phoned the first one back (about 2hrs after first phone call).................£167 for full service and the car had to have a full service. When I mentioned the smaller service he said other garages would not be covering the warranty and he did not know how they could do it for that price. I did not have the heart to tell him that I had 2 different prices within 2hrs from that dealer.

What it shows me is that depending on who answers the phone depends on what price and info you get :S

Anyway, getting it done for £82.

82 quid for a service, not bad at all

you should ask what oil they use, are they using a cheaper oil for £82, obviously they will say' use the approproate oil, proper checks, etc. but this is very difficult to tell.

If it's just an oil change a a few checks then £82 is still expensive. The oil costs less than half of that so they're making a huge profit which is expected

I'd disagree with you on that one fabia55. Just over £12 goes to HMRC in the form of VAT. That leaves £70 that the dealer is actually getting/charging as his service fee to include the oil, filter, labour etc. Out of that he has to fund employee costs eg: wages, NI, pensions and other company overheads such as professional indemnity insurance, facility costs, admin, safety gear such as workboots (a legal requirement for his technicians and he must supply by law) etc etc, etc to name but just a few. Plus the dealer has his very expensive equipment to buy and maintain such as four poster lift ramps, including some tools that are too expensive for technicians to buy. Everything has to be paid for. You need a lot of trade and profit to cover these things. Having worked in the trade for what seems a life time I can tell you not many people realise how expensive it is to run a business let alone a car franchise business with the attached car workshop/s.

My own Skoda dealer charged me just £76 for a first service which is exactly right (and no, I've never worked for my Skoda dealer, that's his usual price), so £82 is quite cheap for a 30k miler.

i was meant to mean gross profit as dealers have a lot of overheads.

Just had a 30000 on my Fabia3 1.6

£105 - which I thought was fair.

Simpson's Skoda, Colne.

Yep...that's not bad for the petrol engined motor.
