1.8Tsi gearchange

Featured Replies

I'm having trouble getting used to the gearchange on my new 1.8Tsi Scout :giggle:

I usually have a seamless almost automatic like gear change but after a week I've not got it yet. Only 98 miles though !

When I change gear I usually hear a little thunk as the cluth engages. Sometimes I get it spot on and hear nothing.

I guess practice makes perfect.

It's a fantastic motor. Smooth a my old Supra straight 6 and enough low down torque to make it a joy at slower speeds.

What particular problem are you having with the change?

The changes are smooth but I hear a little 'thunk' sometimes if I dont match the revs. Sure it's not a problem with the car it's just me. It's the same kind of sound you get if you dont get a change perfect on any car.

It's called "new" !!

readarnold well I've now done 7.5k in out Scout and it's 14 months old. Probably still get the odd thunk but I'm not worried about it :-) Gearbox also feels a bit notchy but not enough for me to be worried.

Should have had a DSG! ;)

b0llox :-)

I would have dearly loved a DSG. Unfortunatley :

a ) They were not available when we ordered

B ) I had to order in the 12.5 minute period that the Mrs though it was a good idea

c ) I had to have the petrol due to cost ( and the Mrs )

d ) The DSG is not available for the petrol refer to point c

;)

Manual is a proper drivers car anyway ;)

My 2008 diesel Scout with 26,000 miles on it makes that 'thunk' too, and always has!

I have had my 1.8TSI for 18 months and never had any problems, even going from 4th direct to 6th somtimes. I agree a fantastic smooth and fast car, with added AWD as a bonus in snow/ice.

Couldn't get consistently smooth gear changes on the 2.0tsi manual, that was pretty much the primary reason after 8 months i chopped it in for a DSG instead. I've never looked back.

It did on mine too first few weeks but it ws more of a clutch click then gearbox, went away soon.

I've had a few problems "getting used" to the gearbox in my VRS and I think its the clutch. It doesn't seem to have a very distinct bite point to me.
