Intermittent Air Con Issue on 07 VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've driven the VRS to the continent, and it's damn hot!

Every now and again, for about 10-15mins at a time, the AC stops working in the car. No warning light, no leakage that I can see, no funny smells, but it goes out for a while and then comes back.

In a 700KM drive I counted it happening about 5 times in 7hrs. I know the compressors not engaged, because if I stop, the fuel consumption reading runs at 0.7 litres per hour as opposed to 1.2 litres per hour.

I've checked all the electrical connections. Has anyone had the same experience?

thx

Matt

If the weather is very hot and the a/c is working hard then the refrigerant pressure can rise to its maximum allowed value and the ECU will turn off the compressor until the pressure falls. Typically this will happen when you are in traffic. Cars supplied to hotter climate markets have more powerful a/c systems.

When the compressor not running, the radiator"s fans working ?

Is the reading on the car for the external air temp OK.

On our octy 1 the external temp sensor went wrong, car was reading minus 25 (-25) The aircon switches off at around -5 to stop it damaging itself in cold weather

Exterior reading is correct. It's 32-37 c here at the moment.

It never happened on an open road, always when I had to slow down. It wasn't slow though, maybe 90-100 kph down from motorway speeds, and once on a backroad @37 C in high humidity where I had to run at 60-80 kph.

Perhaps that's it: I wont panic for the moment :)

Ferrari also kicked up a stone out of a tool booth near Monaco - cracked my windscreen. Ah the joys, but I haven't seen a single other VRS down hear, and those Mercs really hate me :)

Thanks for the input.

Took it out this morning after not driving it since the long drive. No AC whatsoever now...

Gonna take it to a garage :)
