steering weight and steering feedback are two completely different things.

steering weight and steering feedback are two completely different things.

yes i agree but with stupid light steering is pants

I used to think that it was too heavy, I now think that it is just about right.

Drove a new Astra the other day, now that was too light around the straight ahead.

You should try driving an Octy with a 1.4 TSI engine which means there's less weight over the front wheels - then you'll understand what light steering is ;)

Taken from the VCDS section on this forum:-

Steering weight

44 – Steering assist

10 - Adaption

Channel 1

Should read 5 on non Vrs models. Pick a number between 1 & 6 for steering weight

Doesn't say what the setting for the vRS is though.

I'm gonna check what mine is later.

tried it on my vRS with shark_90 when he mapped my car. it wasnt possible

Mine was set at 5 to start off with. Changed it to 4 & feels a little heavier, but need to play around a little more, to be certain.

Can anyone help me on this subject, I am trying to adjust the weight of the steering on 2007 L&K

2.0 TDI, have followed the procedure above in VCDS:

Steering weight

44 – Steering assist

10 - Adaption

Channel 1

Should read 5 on non Vrs models. Pick a number between 1 & 6 for steering weight

But it says that Channel 1 is not available? when I try and select it.

Can anyone give me any help/advice. I am trying to lighten up the steering slightly.

Oh, thats not what I wanted to hear! I was really hoping that I could change it, as I think it is quite heavy at slow speeds.

Its probably not helped by the fact that my Seat has lighter and nicer steering than the Octavia and I was really hoping that

I could lighten up the Octavia a little bit to be more like the Seat.

Looks like I prob not able to change it then? I cant work out why the steering feels that much heavier in the Octavia?

It is only possible to change it on very early mkII cars, not long after it was introduced Skoda revised the steering controller and it was no longer possible to choose a different level of assistance.  I believe it is because the assistance is not linear but varies with speed and so there is a curve or map which varies the degree of assistance.  The original cars had 6 selectable curves pre programmed whereas the later cars didn't and require reflashing (or similar, not sure on the correct technical term) to change the curve.

Size of the wheels (mainly width of the tyres) and tyre pressures will make a difference between cars.

Thats a bummer, as I was hoping I could change it, my car has the 225 width tyres and i think this makes the steering heavier than the

205 tyres, I dont suppose if optional 17's were fitted at factory with the 225 width tyres the assitance level or 'curve'was changed to suit the wider tyres?

Bit dissapointing, I am a bit miffed as to why the steering feels so weighty at slow speeds.

Even with the early cars you can't "see" the curve, so you don't know if the curves are different for different specification cars / wheel and tyre sizes.  With the newer controllers you can't even find out anything about the "curve" with VCDS.

If it was left the factory and was set up for 225 width tyres and then narrower ones were fitted logically you would assume that the steering would feel lighter with 205 tyres and vice versa.

Mine was fitted with the Pegasus wheels (225 45 17) and sports pack suspension from new, so I assume that it has a 'curve' loaded

specific to that wheel & tyre combo?

The steering seems quite heavy, tyre pressures are good, but I think the alignment needs looking at as it doesnt feel 100% right and the steering wheel is out abit.

BTW thanks for the response to my post and the interesting info.
