OCTAVIA SERVICING

Featured Replies

Hi,

My octavia 06 is an ex hire car and the hire company lost the official service book.. I have an official replacement book, but it does not detail what I should expect to have covered - mines coming up for its 2nd service. Does anybody know where I can find these details on the web & possibly approximate cost ?

Many thanks.

Ex hire car with no service book, can't say i would have touched that with a bargepole......

How many miles showing on it?

Clearly you know nothing about fleet hire etc then

Every Hire/Fleet car i've known from a decent company has always been serviced on the button and looked after mechanically very well. Skoda will be able to dig out the history if the seller cant anyway.

To the OP, just call your nearest Skoda dealer for prices and to see if they'll dig out your history

Obviously I know nothing

An ex Hire car due its 2nd service on an 06 plate? With no service book?

I did ask what the milage was, before you jumped on me 2 footed........

And will also presumably have been driven to within an inch of its life?

To the OP, prepare the lube, the 4yr service has to include the cambelt change now...

Suprisingly its been the most reliable car I have owned, but yes your right, I should have checked - even though I bought from a Skoda dealer! Its a Skoda replacement book and ]doeshave the services recorded. The car has done 52450 & is due for 2nd service. I just need to know what that service covers ie does it need a brake fluid change etc. By the way the cam belt & water pump have been changed.

Thanks.

It's done 52k and has only had 1 service so far?!

Phew! Costs shouldn't be too bad then.

Same as you jumped on the OP two footed ;-)

He's happy with it, he clearly knows the history from his subsequent posts and he wanted an answer not an opinion on whether to touch his own car with a bargepole

If a cars well serviced and all the ancilliaries are working properly theres not much you can do to break it to be honest. I'd rather buy an ex fleet/hire car than from most other places aside from the fact there's often cosmetic repairs that arent quite up to scratch, mechanically they are 99 times out of 100 in better condition than the equivalent private/dealer sale

The cars are used in a lot harsher environments than the UK and seem to last just fine so a bit of thrashing wont really hurt it given it has a good history

What's a Bargepole??

Service 1 = Max of 18,500 miles

Service 2 = Max of 37,000 miles

Service 3 = Max of 55,500 miles

Service 4 = Max of 74,000 miles

At the 74,000 miles or 4 years it's also time for a cambelt service.

Your car should have had at least 2 services already on variable and more on fixed.

Brake fluid is every 2 years regardless of mileage, but that is an extra charge on a service.

Brakefluid every 2 years is a royal rip off.

They can test how much water has gotten into it with a probe or a bit of paper that costs pennies rather than getting you to spend £60 every two years for nothing in a lot of cases. It has always lasted far far longer than 2 years in all of my cars.

If it's had a cambelt & water pump changed at an early milageage then it more than likely that the engine oil has been changed but not recorded.

My car is coming up for its 74k service now (also an '06). it needs the cambelt etc doing, as well as whatever else should be scheduled. Does anybody have a rough price i can expect to pay from an indie or Skoda garage? Im scared :(

Ok, according to my log book the service service should be as follows (main points):

Every 60,000km or 4 years:

Inspect engine for leaks/damage

Oil / filter change

Steering joint checks

Exhuast check

coolant/anti-freeze leaks check

dust/pollen filter replacement

electrics/switch gear checks

clutch oil change

wiper checks

headlight levelling check

v-belt check

spark plugs changed

test drive inspection

additionally after 90,000km:

fuel filter change.

As has been said, for prices just phone around a few dealers to check. main dealer will prob be around £200+ excluding any work needed not inc above, indy will no doubt be less, but as I've not had my 4 year service yet I'm only guessing...

I've been quoted £250 - £300 inc vat for cambelt & water pump at a respected indie in Stockport. Thats on a petrol, mind you.

My car has done 15100 miles and is claiming it requires a service in 3600 mile (or 543 days I think it was...) so the 18500 must be a guideline rather than a fixed maximum... unless my car is going to do more sums nearer the time of service
