shell fuelsave

Featured Replies

Ok, so I know this is a general topic rather than model specific, but as most of the shell v-power users (like myself) will be here where all the vRS's are then it seemed the best place.

People have no doubt seen the latest shell ad campaign for the 'fuelsave' addition to their standard fuels that they claim saves a litre of petrol per tank. Presumably this is true or else they would fall foul of advertsing standards etc. Now, this new additive is only in their standard fuel and not in V-Power, so would I be right in thinking that they are essentially using what was already in V-Power? And if that is the case has the incentive for using V-Power decreased slightly as all we will be left with is the higher ron compared to standard but without any greater fuel economy savings over standard?

You will get less power from 95 Ron compared to VPower 99 Ron

Nope, not correct. V-Power creation remains a separate process and is all 'made' at one refinery.

This 'FuelSave' blend is just some revised work the Shell boffins have been working away at. Obviously you've still got the main difference of this product containing less octane than V-Power.

For the 2.0T boys, stick to the good stuff

What about the VPower Diesel?

What about the VPower Diesel?

I use it and find it better then standard derv - more power and economy

With approx 5p average increase in cost over standard Diesel in a 50l filllup that's about 2 litres more you can buy standard derv - is it that much better economy?

A couple of months ago I used V Power Diesel for 2 fills, I did not feel there was any noticeable difference in performance, and there was no difference in economy, so did no bother with it.

I am now on my second tank of the fuelsave, the car seemed to get more mgp out of the last tank than normal, the trip 1 memory reset just before my first fill using fuelsave, at the moment it looks like the average has increased by about 2mpg.

Hopefully shell have completely tested this new blend, and don’t end up needing to withdraw it, which happened to them in around 1985/86 !!
