Nokia terminal mode

Featured Replies

Hi,

it seems that Volkswagen group is bringing the Nokia terminal mode into their cars (next year?). A short presentation can be found there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38gH8Bs0uMQ and more info there: http://www.nokia.com/terminalmode and there: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-media/announcements/2010/07/meego-software-platform-chosen-genivi-alliance . This is based on Meego operating system, whics is based on Linus OS and developed together with Nokia Corporation and Intel.

However I cannot find anywhere if this solution will be taken in use also in Skoda cars and if there is any possibility install it afterwards into my car. Does anyone know if this can be installed afterwards into Bolero system and what does it require from the car (e.g. premium Bluetooth, etc.)?

I had an N97 for a month (the worst phone ever developed or known to man) when it first came out (sold it quick sharp on ebay) and that doesn't look all that different to the same behaviour you get when you connect the N97 to the telly, only difference being the touchscreen on the stereo is feeding back to the phone.

If it's just boiling down to a way to access Nokia's crap latest versions of symbian, "sod that fur a game 'o' soldiers" :giggle: i'll never buy another Nokia of that series ever again. Abysmal.

Sorry to hear that you have had bad experiences with Nokia. However this Meego is Linux based operating system - not Symbian based like N97 for instance. the graphical user interface may look the same. This was not a question of the best mobile phone. I'm sure this terminal mode will support most of the phones anyway.

I seriously doubt it - any new Meego systems will be using newer higher performance hardware and the OS will be tailored to that hardware.

It's an interesting move and one I'm pleased to see as I've found Maemo to work extremely well although a shame it's been very short lived.

im using maemo on my N900 and find it very good but am keen to see what meego will be like when the release it for my phone.

As far as I'm aware, Meego on the N900 isn't getting any official support as Nokia/Intel are focussing on the X86 version rather than spend time on the ARM one?

It seems that there is ARM processor on it.
