Has any one really pushed their car to the limit ?

Featured Replies

HI,

a mate of mine used to own a fabia vrs with a few mods about 190bhp he claimed,

and he said he had 150mph out of it ? :wonder: could this be true ? (all done on private roads im guessing)

Not pushed mine as i dont want to kill it, :)

what the speedo says and what the actual speed is is two different things lol

might have shown 150 but was prob 130 lol

..In my standard car I've seen 120 on a sat nav.... in Germany, of course.. I think it had a little more to give as well as I didn't stop for lack of (be it quite slow, though) acceleration, but because the conditions required it. Up at those levels it doesn't sound happy. Mind you, the ride was ok.

There was a guy not so long ago who did a few trips down the autobahns with top speed in mind.. had some funky read outs from the sat nav in his double din..

this was taken from a tom tom satnav ??

3 up I had 134 on the Talex on the CZ trip through Germany. Dread to think what the top end is now it has a hybrid :o

what do they do on paper 127mph ?

I never do above 70mph. ;)

I never do above 70mph. ;)

thats because the new fabia 1.2's cant do over 70mph , :D :p :giggle:

I've had the needle touch 150 on the speedo, which is probly about 135-140 actual?

It then went into limp mode

Anyway, its not about max speed, its about how fast you get there! ;)Real world performance!

13 seconds to triple figures from standing start means I am happy with performance, but can I usually be bothered to go above 110 / 120mph? very VERY rarely. :) Whats the point? :)

Exactly Jason. If my car was limited to 90 i'd be happy tbh. as long as it got there faster than a normal car haha.

analogue speedo's tend to read 10% ish fast if you calabrate them with GPS, 150mph on the speedo is reasonable as that would equate to 135mph which is reasonable for a mapped vRS :)

Get it on an airfield track day and you will get it maxed.

It won't do 150mph thanks to this

Basically double the speed, square the drag. The Fabia is about as slippery as a milk float and when you get up round those speeds it just stops despite higher power.

Also the gauge will have a 10% over read on it so at 150 on the gauge it's closer to 135 mph in the real world as mentioned. GPS will tell it better and it will go nowhere near 150 on the gps even with 250bhp. My Saab does 146 on the GPS (Track day) and that is running about 200bhp however that truely is a slippery car. My fabia running 170 used to hit about 134 on the GPS.

ive had 145 3's up but when it was rolling roaded it said 160 ??? can not be right surely ??

Got to 110 on an old airfield in my Mrk1 1.2 fabia...Just.

Even with my (old) power in 2007 I couldn't get the mongrel above 135mph indicated over a 3km stretch from standing start (with room allowed for braking too)

They simply don't like going that fast, so I say, "Sod top speed. Acceleration & handling = king!"

seen 134 on tomtom with just a decat, was over 150 on the speedo.

even with hybrid turbo over 200bhp

i have only ever seen 145mph indicated......

after 130mph its pretty pooop

I saw an indicated 135 on my 100 bhp Fabia and all the power was up at the top end with very little torque.

The wife had the same engine, and had far more torque but less top end.

I always suspected my car had been mapped but who knows......

All I know is it would level peg with a vRS on a slip road :)

I've hit 135-140mph in my fabia100tdi (remapped to 130) several times on the clocks, but actually when you look at the GPS read out it only shows 120mph!

so I wouldn't be suprized if your mate really did see 150mph on the clocks, they are a million miles out on these Fabias

Flat out, might have had another 2 or 3 mph in it but entered a 100km/h zone at 217 km/h :D

The speedo is set up for lower speed accuracy, hence why at higher speeds it then goes up in 20's rathere than the normal 10mph.

How much drag/air resistance do you think there is holding the car back on a rolling road....?

lots big fan to cool ic

I think the thread should read "how often does anyone push their car to the limit?"

Although "limit" can mean lots of things on its own. I've pushed mine to the limit over 1/4 mile, thrashed it arse around various tracks, but top speed? Not my thing.
