Bloody typical only checked it the other week when there was a similar post and it looked fine!

Is it the one that overheats and melts?

I think Skoda produced an updated version, also when you fit it make sure the connector on the end isn't crimped on too tightly as thats what causes the heat buildup

Ok at home now, what parts do i need to repair the cable? And rough prices aswell please.

It's the Black cable on the left of the fuse box when you are looking at it. Where does it go and how hard is it to fix?

Done a search and can't find owt???? :(

I stand corrected, but I do believe It goes to the alternator.

You're right m8 just managed to find Rooster's post from a couple of weeks ago which is the exactly same problem i've got, and the reason why 1) i knew exactly what was wrong and 2) why i checked it a couple of weeks ago lol

Just pm'd Rooster for part numbers and prices hopefully won't be too bad

i had the same problem a few weeks ago what i did was to cut the overheated terminal grimp a new one in its place and soldered it ,also i replaced the fuse which connects to the terminal as a precaution because it had overheated also the good thing with me was that the fuse box didnt melt

Nothing worse than having a melted box :giggle::rofl:

Decided to remove the battery while changing the alternator cable, and i found that the unfused main cable to the starter motor is in really poor condition with bare cable showing where the outer covering has come off plus it looked like the alternator cable with some corrosion on it. Might be worth other people checking theirs too as it can cause a fire due to it being unfused and directly going to the battery.

Rang my local Skoda dealer for a new cable at 4.30pm and at first they were gonna charge me an extra £5 for next day delivery, but said as i was a good customer they'd loose it in the system :giggle:

Bless 'em :giggle: I'll check mine at the weekend, not had a problem so far and it's 8 years old but knowing my luck one of those cables is probably on it's way out!

Mine's 8 years old lol. Seriously tho check the cable to the starter, might post some pics up tomorrow. Never would of thought to check it out.

I had the cable off a couple of years ago when I thought about changing the starter motor (but one of the bolts was a b**ger to get to so gave up in the end!) I do remember it was fairly corroded (covered in blue crap) at the end where it screws onto the starter motor but never really checked the body of the cable.

Got a phone call this morning saying that the cable didn't arrive, so i took the cable off and had a good look at it. Cleaned the end bit that goes to the starter and was quite badly corroded, looked again at the outer covering and realized it wasn't as bad as i thought and was made by the battery tray that had been rubbing it, so taped it up. Put everything back together (apart from the 8mm nut that holds the P clip) took it for a drive and all is well, with all the wires ontop of the battery not getting hot :)
