VCDS Lite

Featured Replies

just got my £7.90 VCDS and software of ebay being playing about with it found 2 fault codes one being the battery power level which seems to be linked to all the dash warning lights comeing on but was sorted a few months back with a new battery and a rear speed sensor probable due to the RR day, cleared those.

After doing some reading on here and on the web in general about how to use it ect i found the data logger ;-) so off i went for a quick drive logging the Nm, throttle postion and KPH. Once back home i sat down and watched the 5 min drive on my laptop well a few lines going up and down lol and the Nm max was 410Nm or 302ft-lb :-) just trying to work out how to check boost pressure now so i can see how acurate my boost gauge is best £7.90 ive ever spent.

hey is what you bought?

My link

as i need to read a few codes and dont want to pay a garage to do it if there this cheap?

thanks

Only annoying thing with it is it won't show all the interpretations of the codes (but if you search for the code numbers online you'll figure out what they are). I think VCDS-Lite can be upgraded from the shareware version to full for about £100. Cheaper than the full kit with cable that will also work on newer cars, but still quite a bit of cash.

Sounds pretty good then, think I'll order one and see what it comes back with in regards to the EML being on :)

Am I right in thinking this will NOT work with a MY2011 Octavia? Is there an eBay VCDS cable that will work with late model vehicles?

Correct, as the 1Z octavia uses a different canbus system. The only way is to buy the official ross-tech cable, which is the only one that will work with the latest VCDS software.

does it really give you the torque output? is it accurate?

i had no idea it could do that if it can as surely that means getting the figure from a rolling road would be a waste of money now?

oh just read it only goes upto 2004. My vRS is 2005 so wont work.bah

my rolling road fig was 300ft-lb and the reading from VCDS was 302ft-lb so id say its very acurate

You might want to edit out the TMBP numbers in additional info as they present a risk for cloning.

The communications error may be a setting in the drivers. Go to Device Manager in windows, and find the FTDI under ports or USB. In settings you are looking for something like a latency setting in msec, set this to 2.

I have edited out the vin number on the post.

indeed as at least one forum member on here found out. The CD he got came with some other software on it, which pretended to be something it wasnt and when run it trashed the owners dashpod and he ended up needing a new one from the dealer as the firmware was destroyed. VCDS can be very dangerous, and you can if you are not careful deploy the airbags or damage the ABS ECU if you are a novice and are playing around.

The annoying thing with VCDS is the up/down browse buttons in the basic settings mode. I unintentionally thoughtlessly did this when I started out, but luckily it seems to have caused no harm. Apparently it can be bad if you end up putting some channel into basic settings and you don't know what you're doing. Use measuring blocks and do not use up and down in basic settings.

thanks but I had already changed the numbers and it was actually one digit short also., :giggle:
