Coolant issue?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I know its been quite hot lately so this maybe the cause of coolant loss but.. probably about 2 months ago the coolant level dropped below the 'low mark', top it up above the 'max' mark slightly with 50/50 coolant/water.. now its nearly touching the line again.. :wonder:

I don't see any damp-ness in the engine bay whenever its hot or cold, colour of coolant is normal with a slight hint of yellow/orange on top but rest is pink.. car has been running fine (to my knowledge).

I found this thread - http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/169050-coolant-dropping-but-no-leaks-and-egr-valve/page__p__2055116__hl__coolant%20leak__fromsearch__1entry2055116

Something about EGR could be blocked thus excess heating?

Whats the best plan of action? ask garage to do a pressure check? clean the EGR? or non at all till something more definite occurs?

Thanks!

Coolant colour should be consistent colour even on top. Commonest areas to check are

1: Header tank and cap

2: Radiator thermo switch

3: Thermostat Housing

4: Head gasket (Usually only leaks when booting it)

Check all hose joins for any fluffy white deposits.

Ok, definitely dropping coolant levels.. is this the fluffy white deposit?

So.. what needs replacing? the silicon hoses (and clamps?) or the metal piping..? :S

that just looks normal road grime to me

keep topping it up....

if the loss accelerates think about putting some leak detection into your coolant to identify leak

then fix leak

clean coolant out

and refill with new g12+ coolant

Thanks! I'll look into this coolant leak dye (never knew such thing existed).

Also, I've seen these "coolant leak fix" in liquid form.. are they a no go since neither of you has suggested them..?
