Tried to plug a sat nav in, lighter socket dead.

Got home, lifted centre console out to take a look and it appears there is no wires and connecting plug running to the socket at all. Felt around and found the handbrake sensor wiring and what is probably the seatbelt sensor wiring, but a severe lack of any form of wirinf or little white plastic plug for the lighter. Any Ideas as to where it may be hiding? where does the wiring originate from so I can trace back to the source? Is there a reason people take the lighter connections out or do some cars simply come without them.

looking forward to the replies, as my O4 was the same no wiring and a dummy cig lighter plastic socket?

Mine has a real lighter, not the plastic bung that says "12V" on the top, just seems as though the wiring and plug connector bit has gone walkabout.
