Service Plan for the Yeti

Featured Replies

I have just recieved a letter from my local Dealer about a service plan for the Yeti ,I have just purchesed from them.

Thay are offering the next two years(or 20K) for £299.

Has anyone else had this and is it a good price?

Would be interested in your thoughts.

Cheers

You have to ask yourself the following questions:

How much would the servicing cost without this scheme?

Is your car on "demand" servicing or mileage?

How many miles are you going to drive in 2 years?

I suppose if a service is nearly £200 and you're going to need it twice, then it is a good deal, but I expect to do nearly 20kg a year.

The Yeti should in most cases on leaving the factory be on a variable service régime (QG1), which you can check by looking for this code on the vehicle data sticker in the front of the service book or stuck to boot floor (under the carpet).

With the variable service the vehicle will depending on mileage and usage at some point in a two year period ask for a service via the service indicator on the dash. The basic rule of thumb is 20,000 miles or two years which ever occurs first.

From experience with my previous cars with variable service then 16 - 18,000 tended to be the norm for the service indicator to flash up, which would be 16 months driving for me at that time.

If your vehicle is on Fixed Servicing rather than variable then you would find a code QG2, which is 10,000 or 1 year which ever occurs first.

One of the key things this effects is the grade of oil that you can use, although this in reality only now effects the petrol engines as the CR diesels have to use 'longlife' oil for both QG1 and QG2.

So from what you have indicated then the dealer is probably offering you one variable service or two fixed services and from experience I would get exactly what they are offering confirmed in writing. Also remember at two years the brake fluid will need replacing so is this included. Once you know what they are offering you could then compare this to other dealers.

A quick internet search found some prices from a Slough based VAG intendant service centre which should be a reasonable guide My link

Regard my own servicing plans then I'm going to run my Monster on the QG2 program as by the time you get to these high variable miles I've found the oil to be an absolute mess. I think the original concept for variable service was designed to suit 'rep motors' that sit on a motorway all day, not your average private owner crawling around town or in my case going up and down Wold on a regular basis.

Regards,

TP

Just spoke to my dealer about prices on the fixed service schedule and there prices are 10k-£151 incl and 20k- £223 incl not including Brake fluid.

So a saving of £74 not to sneezed at but I'm sure ringing/emailing local dealers could reduce the service cost nearer to there service plan price.

Edit:: Just spoke to my next nearest dealer and there prices are 10k-£120 incl and £200 incl

Prices will obviously go up in jan with tax and inflation etc so :wonder:
