Does traction control do anything?

Featured Replies

I get very mixed up with traction control ESP ASR and so on but I was sure there was an instrution or warning in the book to turn whatever it was off in snow  does this go back to the different 4x4 systems on these cars(which I profess I did not really understand)I just remember thinking snow would be the one time I would want all the clever devices on and why would I want to turn it off??:ne_nau:

Agreed...

Maybe the traction control simply cuts the power to the driven wheels if there is little or no grip so to get moving you need to spin the wheels? I know in snow it's also recommended you turn off ABS too as this allows the wheels to lock and snow builds up in front the wheels causing the car to stop in a shorter distance ... well that's the theory! I forget the last time there was snow on the roads/car parks round here ;)

the brochure qoutes the furby vrs as having MSR. Any difference between that and ASR or just a misprint?

The traction control on the Fabia vRS is practically useless IMO. It doesnt really stop wheel spin and it can make progress very jerky, especially changing from 1st to 2nd when pressing on. Also, it can kick in mid bend sometimes and the resulting understeer can often tempt the car towards the hedge on your left hand side

Turned off the car is so much more drivable in all conditions IMO.

i couldn`t afford ESP :(

I wasnt really bothered about having it - probably would have meant a 6 month wait instead of 4, so I just stuck with the standard car. What ya dont have ya dont miss...
