Crash bar

Featured Replies

Ive bought the seat sport fmicand to fit it, it needs to have a bitof the crash bar chopped off. Iknow that isnt a problem, but running without a crashbar.. How much of the structure of the car it held together by the bar?

Im thinking it'll only be off for a few days.

Cheers

Don't be stupid.......

lol fail.

To the OP : Yes ofc it will reduce the strength of the car in a crash and probubly effect the structural integrity sumwhat to.

If I were you I would avoid driving it for the few days the bar is off.

bar also stops twisting of front end

chopping a wee bit out is fine however just dont remove it completely lol

Don't be stupid.......

if you dont have anything constructive to say then dont bother.

Rather than just take it off and cause damage to the car i asked the question first, meaning im not been stupid.

Thanks for the replies that were constructive, ive put it all back together will give it a go next weekend when i have time to modify the bar before i drive.

think safety before performance or looks imo emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Way to introduce yourself to the forum mate, Your second post and you've already made an impression

with two members who contribute a fair bit to these discussions. Good work...

If you want to go about trolling other peoples remarks... May I suggest Barryboys or similar.

By the sounds of things you'll be amongst friends there. People here on Briskoda tend to try and

help one another.

Your comment was pointless and only served to illustrate that you must pronounce ricardo with a silent P.

Welcome to the forum ;)

Well said, that man!

In answer to the OP... Not very, until you crash :p I'll get my coat...

Nah seriously, I'd think about not driving the car until it's re-fitted, even in 'trimmed' form. Good luck with the car!

I was gonna ask the same thing. I now have the IC and pipes but not a lot of time, so it'll have to wait. Good to know, thanks :-)

The only part which needs 'trimming' is the top part where it turns up. Not exactly going to make it weak. Possibly going to make a new crash bar which will be stronger, and the fmic will sit in it so it can be seen ;-)

going town to chris at cctuning to get a rolling road remap so i can see what actual gains it gives me, before and after. Will post up my results next saturday.

Mine has a slight notch out to vent the IC better. I don't believe it has impacted on safety of the bar as most of the strength will be in the horizontal part, not the vertical part (fairly obvious which is stronger bit in a front end'er)

However, I think the front bumper sits on top of the crashbar so you wouldn't be able to fit the bumper without the bar there.

By saying 'don't be stupid' it's pointing out the obvious. I'm sure if if posted as a newbie the same question I would have seen many comments saying such things as 'epic fail' and 'lol' from you 'reputable' members! And just because you see I'm new on here it doesn't mean I'm a barryboys follower.......but then again anybody on seatcupra.net will work that out as i have the same username in there. And grr666 are you not now guilty of the same kind of comments that are frowned upon? Did you think of that last insult all by yourself too?

It wasn't meant as a feather ruffling comment. But I thought it was to the point that a crash bar is very important to the structural integrity of the car and therefore should remain in place when the car is being moved.

Apologies where they are due but if we are slapping wrists then I feel I'm not the only wrong doer in this thread!

If you took the comment the wrong way then I apologise

In my experience, Briskoda tends to be more laid-back than SeatCupra.net. I've had some damn snarky responses there for no good reason... :wonder:

The trouble with forums is you can't easily tell the intended tone of the comment!

OP, glad you got an answer

Rirdcao_smooth - im sure your not a 'noob' with little response answers and now nothing. Jus the thi g that ****es me off is i'm asking a questuon that could possibly put my life at risk, so would have prefered a constructive comment..

'don't be so stupid, it affects the structure of the car'

or so on, sorry to have a slight dig but questions, even if they have been asked a million times need answering so the poster gets the correct answer.

No worries mate, as I say apologies for being so vague/unhelpful. It's the hypocrit who said not to insult and then did it themselves is the only issue I have. But hey ho I won't lose sleep over it! Oh and pics of the install when done!!!

To be fair the question, 'should I run without my crash bar?' is fairly stupid, you will be uninsured for a start.........

Keyboard Warriors

i have my crash bar off at the mo i can honestly say i havent felt of visually noticed any diffrence in perfomance and cornering BUT it does look better lol :giggle: on a more serious note i think it is down to the driver imo its designed to be there so it cant do any good taking it off unless

1. your are saving weight

2. u really want to have a bad accident when hitting a tree ( example )

3. like me get more flow through the intercooler

4. like me also it does look mighty fine with it gone

imo mate u make the choice we can only say our opinions but at the end of the day if your happy the most likley we are
