Clutch going

Featured Replies

Just come back off holiday and noticed when driving up a steep hill the revs raised slightly under acceleration only about 2-300rpm then went back down so I am assuming it's the clutch starting to go. Car is a 110 tdi 2003 how much should I be expecting to pay and are there other things that need doing when clutch is replaced? Car has done 126k

thanks for any help

That does sound as if the clutch is starting to fail. I think a new clutch, fitted is about £300 ish? I dunno why, but on my Octy (and I think this is semi-common) that after the clutch was changed, then the clutch pedal would sometimes get stuck to the floor after changing gear, and that then required the clutch master cylinder to be replaced....

Yeah mine sometimes gets stuck halfway down and that i was told could be the clutch master cylinder, so do you think that would be worth swapping whilst having clutch done? how hard is it to swap the clutch yourself? never done it before but am quite practical.

it only needs the master cylinder when numpties try to bleed the system by pumping the pedal this fecks them

any garage that changes clutch and then the master cylinder fails dont know what there doing

So it should be pressure bled?

So would I need to get the dual mass flywheel swapped at the same time? How hard a job is the clutch to swap and how long should it take a garage? dont know if I should give it a go myself

Put it in 2nd with handbreak on and let the clutch up slow.

If it stalls then clutch is fine.

If it slips then would look at changing.

That pretty much describes the dealer I bought my car from :)
