Hey folks,

Thought i'd introduce myself, seen as i'll likely be flooding this place with questions and pictures in due course :) Great forum, and seems to be free of the usual negativity and agro, stuff that a lot of enthusiast places attract, which is nice.

I'm Jamie, 20 years old. Student from Edinburgh. I'm currently wafting down our glorious motorways in a Saab 9-5 2.3 LPT MY98. I say motorways, as lets face it, show this barge a twisty and it'll probably resist movement. It lurches into corners and bounces out of them - fun if you're not particularly fond of your life. I'm looking for something smaller/capable/fun/quicker and importantly a lot cheaper to run. I got the Saab because i was in a band and needed a big, powerful motorway-mobile to haul gear all over the country. Not to mention it was really cheap to insure, because it was quite unheard of for a 19 year old to want to be seen in one, let alone actually want to drive it. Not to mention they're relatively underpowered. I paid £1500 TPF&T. That was £200 more than a 1.25 Zetec Fiesta! Now i've quit the band, to commit to studying, i'm left with an overly large, overly thirsty luxobarge. I'll miss it, not to mention i have spent £1200 in the last year, of ownership, to make it as reliable and sound as a 9-5 can be.

Anyway, enough of that, I've decided i want a Mk1 Fabia VRS. It ticks all of my boxes and i can't wait to get my hands on one. I've done a fair bit of research and have already conceded that it will be getting a fair bit of cash thrown at it, in order to make it something special. First i'll be sorting the suspension, braking and handling characteristics out with some modification and upgrading. I like to be a left field, so i'll be looking to explore different routes, rather than the ones that are becoming increasingly well-worn. That will be done before the power is upped. It all depends how much my insurance company like me anyway. So i might have to leave things like remaps, hybrid turbo etc 'til i have another year under my belt or something.

Cheers

Jamie

Hi & Welcome.

Have you driven one yet in order to come to this conclusion ?

You say you will change ride etc. & having owned one, unless youre doing lots of minor road running & not be looking to fill the back of the car with passengers / luggage freqeuntly, it would be worth thinking carefully about the suspension mods you make.

I found that my bulk mileage was motorway with some town work, & the ride was quite satisfactory for the day to day use.

It is an excellent package of a car, Happy hunting

Hi there, welcome along. Good switch to make!

My car handles like a go-kart! Yea standard was perfectly fine... but nowhere near as fun :D. I live out in the sticks so she gounds out, bumps rattles and clatters down farm tracks and country lanes but I love her and wouldnt have it any other way

Hi and welcome aboard.

I learnt to drive in an 05 Fabia VRS :) Which is a major basis for my decision. I do 300 miles a week, 150-200 of which are on the twisties. Even then, the way i drive (having come from the 95) i don't think i'll be haring it into bends. I'd just like to make it so fun can be had safely and legally i guess - with the option of some track use too.

I live on a country estate, with a warren of private tarmac amongst lots of nice wee country roads. Not to mention, i study at Stirling uni - so, a 20 minute drive from Dukes Pass and a host of glorious roads in the Trossachs and beyond. I like to drive there frequently during the week, mainly just to 'get out' and take a break with the bird. Its how both of us unwind. Weekends that aren't spent working will usually be spent on the Scottish roads. Lately however we've not been able to afford that luxury, thanks to the 95's thirst. So we're both eagerly awaiting the arrival of something that won't be a constant drain on money (well, not including any... ermm... 'essential work') :giggle:

Welcome bud

Come along to the meets (look in the Scottish Meets section for more info ;)) and have a chat to some of the guys that have Fabia vRS's

Right.. they'd all be pretty good, functional family cars. So you'd have to look at more specifics i suspect - of which you should look at the number of threads on this forum relating to that question, and perhaps make your own. You could maybe even start your very own introduction thread! :giggle:

Hi Jamie, welcome to the forum :hi:
