Radio Reception problems

Featured Replies

Hi All. I had an original Skoda radio that worked well and received signals for FM and AM stereo. However, some toe rag decided to unscrew the antenna and steal from my car. Since then I have replaced the antenna with a Bee Sting one which is suitable for Skoda vehicles all models. The problem is that my new radio and my old Skoda radio will no longer recieve signal which means I cannot tune into any radio stations whatsoever.

I checked the wiring at the front of the car and everything is fine. The only problem I found was that the coaxl wire and the antenna wire were unclipped under the headlining. So, I plugged both wires back together hoping this would have solved the issue but it has not. I have even taken the antenna base apart and looked at that and again everything seems fine. At this point I dont know what to do. It was suggested that the coaxl was wrong but to me this does not make sense since both the old radio that did work will not work any longer and my new radio picked a couple of stations out of the blue but then lost the signal again.

I have a gut feeling that either the new antenna is faulty or the antenna base is at fault but I am not convinced it is the coaxl.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well (I have replaced the antenna with a Bee Sting one which is suitable for Skoda vehicles) if thats all that has changed then it points to that.

I would go to the closest scrappy and get the 100% right 1 of a octavia and try it as it should cost you buttons :) and take it from there.

I'll try that and thanks for the advice. ;)

A lot of the bee sting ones (especially the ebay ones) are great for looks but crap for reception. Just put an OEM aerial back on there as has been suggested

Ok here was the problem. It turned out that the connecter for the radio needed replacing and becuase my new radio is an after market radio it required a filter of some sort that connects to the coaxl plug and then plugs into the radio. There is also a lead that sends a current to the aerial base. In total it has cost me £30 to get the whole thing working.

The Bee Sting is working really well at the moment but I will bear your advice in mind. :smirk: :smirk:

Just saying thats what I found when I had a bee sting on mine (genuine S2000 aerial - ended up giving it away to another member), there were a few other Octy I owners had the same problem, but then we were using them with the OEM stereo. But if they work with an aftermarket stereo and power lead/filter then what the hell

I just hope that this time no one steals my antenna. Maybe I should super glue it
