difference between gol mk 1 and skoda favorit 1993>

Featured Replies

does anyone know what the differences are between the skoda favorit from when VW took over the czech factory and an original unmodified VW golf mk 1.

i was just wondering if a favorit was even close to a golf or just a slight upgraded favorit mk1?

anyway i do know that my favorit blackline drives as if it were new, very smooth not nosiey, and accelerates well, i even manage to overtake a few over drivers now and then.

so, despite the niggles, the main one having now been sorted out, so should pass it's mot in november i acyually very impressed with the car.

Not even close. It's a Skoda.

fuel injection and 100 pcd wheels and better interior, the shell was the same apart from the different front panel

Was the wiring improved, Jim?

sort of, they went to more modern type loom connectors instead of the old bullet blocks and 6 colours. also fuse box went to blade fuses.

but then they had a recall because the heater controlls could rub thru the loom behind the dash and catch fire (we had 2 on fire!!)

Later models around 95 had the VW flat style electrical connectors. My 94 model still had the old big fat Skoda ones.

As mentioned above the Mk2 had the Bosch Monomotronic fuel injection systems which I think came from the Polo, and the VW Polo Airbox, plus the rear drum brakes became VW Polo ones.

The rest is Skoda designed, even the Felicia is based on the Favorit, despite many people believing it is a rebranded Polo (in fact the error is/was perpetuated on the honest john website). In fact, the VW Caddy Pickup truck was a VW Branded Skoda Felicia at one point

Well, I went to see that, and then I emailed Honest John, saying that really the Fel was a facelifted Fav which used the VW engines in 1.6 and 1.9, and to my amazement, he's emailed me back and changed it! Blimey.
