Another poor fuel consumption thread

Well, no noticeable difference in economy since fitting the new filter.

Car will do around 200 miles tomorrow though, so that'll be the real test to see if there is any difference.

As Mark says, they're different Carl. But the same across PD140 applications - so Golf 5/Jetta etc. Also the same as the 1.4TSI unit incidentally.

I've just ordered a Pipercross one.

Where did you order that from Steve?

Well, the new filter didn't really help with the economy issue, but after looking at it, it was in need of replacement anyway.

Drive home on Friday night, no difference in economy. :-(

Plugged the Vagcom in over the weekend and did some MAF measurements.

On a constant run, the expected v's actual readings are fine, however under any form of acceleration the actual readings are all over the shop.

Does anyone know if this is a normal scenario ?

I also filled up in a different area last night. This mornings first 90 miles on the motorway saw the car returning more along the lines of the

econony that I'd expect.

Right-o. Can't really comment on the MAF readings I'm afraid.

But what you say about fuel is interesting. Could be down to a dodgy tank? I've seen that before - filled up with Tesco one time in the Fabia and got 5MPG wiped off that tank doing the same usual journeys and routes!

Has this poor economy been occurring for more than one tank's worth?

I've had the filter make a jump, so it's a shame it's not something as easy as that.

I've just logged some MAF values, but couldn't find the expected value. Do you know what measuring block it was in?

Its done it for a few weeks, but I've been filling up in the same area over that time, so it could be a fueling issue.

I'm doing a data log using measuring block 3. That gives me: seconds - rpm - expected mg-str - actual mg-str - duty cycle.

Also did the test of disconnecting the maf to see if there is a difference - there is !

As far as I know, its still on the original MAF at 94k.............
