alarm goes off when raining

Featured Replies

I am having a problem with my alarm on Octavia Elegance Mrk 2, Most of the time the car is in the garage left unlocked but while on holiday with caravan i locked the car with no problems,On the last day we had rain at night and the alarm went off un- locked and relocked after about 15 minutes it went off again so left it unlocked.

Took it into my local garage had it checked out no fault could be found. Since our holiday i have locked the car many times when out shopping etc with no prblems but to day returned from shoping to find flashers going and a carpark attendant saying my alarm had gone off and yes it was raining .Has any one else had a similar problem or any ideas what could cause this to happen have even tried spraying hose pipe when locked and the alarm didnt go off

There is a feature on the Mk2 Octavia called 'rain closing' where it checks all 4 windows and sunroof (if fitted) one at a time if the sensor in the windscreen detects rain. If this feature is activated it might be upsetting the alarm system. If you have the maxidot display on the dash it can be turned off in there; if not, it can be coded off with VCDS. Try soaking the rain sensor with water after leaving it locked up for at least 10 minutes to see if it sets it off. TBH I am not 100% sure if your '04 model will have it. My '06 Elegance did though.

You could also try locking the car then pressing the lock button one more time, this disarms the deadlocks and the interior monitoring in case a child or dog is left in the car. Then see if the alarm goes off when it rains. At least you can start to narrow down where the fault is coming from.
