Is there any benefit of using 5w40 to 5w30 engine oil or visa versa?

I am coming up to a 50k service and will be replacing the oil on the normal service intervals :think:

I will be probably going for this as i am a mobil 1 geek

The important thing is that it states VW502.00, 503.00 or 507.00 on it.

Go to skoda just over £20 for 5 litres of fully synthetic., it's 5w40 . Dealer told me it's what they use in all standard services, including cars which used to be 5w30

Good call. If you can get to TPS branch its about a fiver cheaper again, and really does the job well enough, pointless spending silly money on oil when the Quantum stuff is more than capable

5w/30 has a lower viscosity than 5w/40, Thinner oil, less friction,Engine warms up slightly quicker,better mpg. On the other hand some drivers prefer 5w/40 if they drive their car hard,Less topping up between oil changes.

Its running on 5w/30 but I may give the 5w/40 a go to see if it makes much difference. Thank you

If there is less friction, why would the warm up quicker? Surely the reverse
