CBDB 140 laid slightly bare

Featured Replies

Might need to top up the oil again before she hits service :S but on removing the oil cap I found a lot of dust and flies around the filler neck. Therefore I decided to pop the engine cover off to see if I could clean this out without loosing it into the engine; double :S

So I thought I would just take some pics for those on the forum that might be intrigued as to what lurks under that cover.

Sadly I lost the pic of my old PD engine in a computer crash earlier this year but if I remember correctly it did not have the additional foam sound blanket sitting on top as with the CR engine.

Hiding under the plastic wiring harness tray is the common rail itself.

The four injectors and associated pipework from the common rail are hidden under the sound blanket. Note the oil filler is part of a plastic 'breather ' housing on the rear of the head. This assembly is known to be different on the later CFHC 140 as the oil filler has moved to the other side where the 'breather' sits in this picture. Not seen this engine without it's cover so unsure of other visual changes.

So thats what an engine looks like

I can see why they put a cover over it! It is pretty ugly. Not as ugly as the 1,2 TSI mind... but then I never go into the engine bay so don't really care what it looks like!
