FMIC

Featured Replies

Well, a long story short is the I blew holes in 2 boost pipes, speaking to Skoda pretty much confirmed that going with stainless and a front mount intercooler was the right decision as they wanted £196 for 2 peices of silicone!!!!! Anyways I have a friend who can get me intercoolers cheap and to pretty much any dimension, I didnt wanna go too big to keep lag down but its around twice as wide as a standard side mount and a little bit thicker (450 x 180 x 65), again there only small turbos so I decided 2 inch pipes would be enough. I'd just like to add at this point also I have a VNT17 (PD150) non hybrid, not the standard turbo. Anyway got my front mount pretty fast...like sameday!

(no comments on the state of my room please lol)

I set about ordering other bits like jubilees and silicones etc and my friend was going to fit it for me as hes a god when it comes to this sort of thing.

About a week later (this seemed like forever, especially when there's no boost in you're life!) it was time to start work!

we found this tiny thing under the drivers wheel arch...think i've seen bigger oil coolers?!

Im not very good at spacing out my threads, the pictures are pretty self explainitory! He made a very good job on the pipes and had to take some akward routes.

BTW, id like to add that I wanted green or black silicone, but unless I was prepared to wait even longer!!!! they only had it in red, so I figured I'll live!

anyways bringing you to the finished product, this is what it looks like now its completed. :D and Im really happy with the result!

parts and labour totalled come to around 350 that includes the FMIC

Have you got any better pictures of how all the pipes are routed? I'm looking into doing my own custom jobby with a FMIC

Also, how have you mouted the cooler? Where is it attached/did you have to weld on your own brackets?

I'll try to get some better photos, but the charge pipe runs does a 180 out of the cooler, back along and underneath direct to the turbo at back, the other pipe runs above as you can see then pretty much follows the original path back to the EGR valve.

The FMIC is mounted onto the crash bar, the bar has been cut incase I decide to get a bigger cooler. It has a large drill hole and some washers giving me the ability to move it slightly if needed. the bottom two holes on the cooler secure it to the bumper from underneath.

P.S. If you look at the photos of the cooler it already comes with mounting brackets as such, the 3 screw holes you may be able to spy.

Thanks for that info mate - and the MAP sensor.

How's that been put into the pipe, IE, what sort of fitment is it? Is it threaded or anything!?

not very clear but you can see the charge pipe running underneath and sort of how the cooler is mounted.

the sensor was held to the cooler by two screws, was easy enough to make, although I didnt do that part lol. Its basically as you see in the photo just onto metal, drilled through the pipe allowing it to get the readings held in by two small bolts instead of screws now.

EDIT: just to clarify, the metal is threaded the only hole into the pipe is for the sensor itself.

The sensor will look the same as this - shouldn't it?

Ahh I see. I've been looking at a few on ebay, should be able to get one for £60-80 I think in similar/same dimensions as yours. Does it pull better and stuff now? Is it noticable?
