Phones

Featured Replies

Why should getting a new phone be such a hassle? You might think that car sales in the VW group would be high enough for the phone manufacturers with working rSAP functionality would mention the fact - either in the individual phone specs available on their websites or on a separate page in the website. You would also think that Skoda, having fitted the system they have in the Columbus, would make sure they had an up to date list of workjng phones. I received a list from the dealer and one from Skoda UK, neither of which listed any phones currently available from Vodafone.

I found from another newsgroup a German Wikipedia page which lists rSAP phones, which seems to be pretty much up to date. But then Vodafone said they would sell me an rSAP phone off that list but if there was a problem connecting with the car they were not responsible for an exchange (fair enough) - and they did say they had sold an rSAP phone to a customer in my position and the phone did not work with the full functionality expected.

Fortunately, there is information out in the newsgroups (on here and on BlackBerry) which confirmed the Bold 9700 should be OK - and it is. Paired immediately, contacts downloaded to the phone book and unpaired when engine switched off. And it links with my Mac to upload from the Apple Address Book.

It did seem like a lot of effort for something which could and should be straightforward.

Rant over...

i bought an "Orange" branded BB Bold 9700 and it would NOT pair with the Superb... :( I tried all ways, eventually, ditching it, in favor for a HTC HD Mini (Windows based phone) Works well, touch screen, Text messages come to Car, and remain on the phone, call list (missed, received etc) on the car's display is that off the phone, and Full phone book off the Sim card and Phone is transfered to the car! - overall, happy!

Which kind of proves the point - worked for me but same phone couldn't be made to work for you. Bizarre.
