Servicing question

Featured Replies

My Vrs cr 170 is due its first service soon. The dealer says 20,000 miles or 1 year driving. The car has around 18,000 miles on it but the maxidot is bleeping to service it in 600 miles. If I go with what the dealer say I can probably get to the end of September out of it. If I go by the car I will get to the end of August. What would you recommend. Also what should I expect from my first service? Fliters and oil change or other things? Any advice appreciated

I'd go with the car if I was you as your car is on variable servicing, the sensors will know when the time is right to change the oil & filters etc, better sooner than later. As it is the first service then not much should be done, engine oil & filter change plus an inspection. If you look in the service book in your car then it will tell you exactly what you should expect to be done by the dealer.

"The dealer says 20,000 miles or 1 year driving"

Surely for variable it is approx 19,000 miles (30,000kms) or 2 years? I have just had my 1st service and I am on fixed servicing (as requested), 9500 miles (15,000kms) or 1 year! turned out to be after 9400miles and 11 months. I know in the servicing book it was written by the dealer to be serviced at 10,000 miles, but the book states 15,000kms.

I only drive 10/11,000 miles a year and I'm on 3 years/30,000 miles free servicing anyway so saw no reason to go variable

btw... 9,320.59 miles = (15,000 kilometres)

I had my CR170 done recently at 17,500 miles. Cost me around £175 at a main dealer and only went because they wrote to me rather than me relying on the car. I could have left it until the car was bleeping but as it hadn't been touched for about 18 months I thought it was a wise move.

The variable servicing is designed for people who do high miles so that they don't have to have their car serviced twice a year. I believe it should be 20k miles or every 12 months. I'd be very reluctant to let my car go for 2 years without a service! Even if the oil hadn't degraded and the filters where still working correctly there are adjustments and inspections that are usually made every 12 months.
