Service indicators : variable measuring or every 10k?

Featured Replies

Hi,

About to get my car serviced this weekend. However, without vagcom I wont be able to reset variable service indicators. My real question is are the engine sensors on the TFSi units good enough to be relied upon for engine oil and mileage? Or is it worth switching to 10k intervals? Car is remapped, but rarely go above 5k (or 4k for that matter) in day to day driving.

Thanks

One thing stands out for me and that is the car is remapped, that means a bit more stress on the internal components. You don't say how many miles a year you do but if it is below 10,000 then I'd definately go for the fixed 10,000 miles or one year regime, I have done with my car, it left the factory set for variable and I only do about 8,000 to 9,000 miles a year so having it serviced only every 2 years seems a bit too far for me.

I do about 16k a year, 80% motorway. Current variable indicator got to 19k with just a top up at 10k, which 'suggests' I'm not driving that aggressively overall... but I don't know what parameters exactly the logic is using to come to that conclusion either. I wouldn't go 2 years without a service either for that matter, would get the oil changed after a year anyway. Would like to understand how it comes to its conclusion mainly.

If you're wanting to do an annual oil change anyway, then switch to fixed intervals. Unless everything is reset after you do that on a variable schedule, you'll muck up all the monitoring. Like the oil viscosity sensor in the sump.
