wax/ polish removal

Featured Replies

I've just bought some side protection strips for my car. They'vre 'peel off and stick on' sticky backed.

Now my car has been paint cleaned, polished and waxed using meg's 3 step system. How do I remove the wax/ polish before I stick the side protection strips on? many thanks in advance

Easy; a strong wash solution - about twice the recommended amount of shampoo should do it.

but i only want to remove the wax/polish on the area where i need to stick the side strips on only.

IPA wipe down of the area you want to remove the wax.

Tardis??

Just clay the bit that you want to de-wax then.

As MoggyTech says, carefully applied IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) should do it. Autoglym's Tar Remover will strip wax, according to them (I've never used it, so I assume it's IPA, from what I've heard/been told), so I guess the other tar removers should also do so.

What's the thought process behind removing the wax?...as long as the car has been washed/dried just stick the mouldings straight on.

I think far to much emphasis is placed on products already on a car & removing them for a whole host of reasons, when in fact in most cases it won't make any difference whatsoever.

thanks for the replies, i'll try the clay bar first as i've got a clay bar left and try the rest it that hasn't worked.

i have been told that i would need to get the strips to stick on to the body rather than on to the layer of shiny/slippery wax

Good luck with it, but seriously once you've stuck them on they aren't going anywhere, irrelevant of what may/maynot be underneath.

This is a friendly forum, and dissent and disagreement are uncommon, and so I hope you'll take this the right way....

I'm sorry but suggesting that you stick something to a heavily waxed surface is poor advice.
