No 1.4Tsi DSG

Featured Replies

My 2.0 TDI DSG L&K Octavia Estate is coming up for change and although I liked the Yeti I was disappointed with the 1.2 engine - just a bit underpowered and it had to be pushed to get reasonable performance which drove MPG down to the low 30's. When Skoda introduced the 1.4 TSI with 20% more power and better torque figures I thought I had my ideal car BUT Skoda Customer Services have just advised me that there are no plans to introduce the DSG gearbox with the 1.4 TSI engine. I now do only about 10,000 miles a year and with the concerns about the increasing complexity of diesels DPF's etc I really wanted to switch back to petrol.

It seems a strange policy not to offer the DSG box with the 1.4 engine and Skoda didn't really have any explanation except to say that the 1.2 fitted that niche. Welcome thoughts of experienced Skoda users - are Skoda's policies subject to change and is there any possibility of their introducing a 1.4 DSG sometime in the next year?

Just a couple of thoughts:

The TDI is not any more complex that the TSI engines - maybe less so with the exception that the petrols do not have the DPF. I drive a 2.0 TDI 170 hp in two very distinctly diffeent modes: 1. Long distance highway trips - several 1000 km at a time and 2. putter around town andlocal roads, very much as I would imagine would happen if only 15,ooo km/year. I have had no difficulties with the DPF at all.

If you like petrol, what's wrong with the 1.8?

Thw 2.0 TDI 140 hp is probably the most harmonious engine for the YETI - plenty of power, and less costly than the 170 and the same economy.

The 1.8 is in a high VED tax band and uses more fuel than I would like - and no DSG. The 2.0 TDI can only be had with DSG in 4X4 format. Don't really need or want the added complication and high price.

I've got a 1.2 with the dsg box and although it could never be described as fast it doesn't feel to slow in comparison to our other car which is a 120d bmw 1, to be honest its better than i thought it would be performance wise,

mark.

Thanks - what MPG do you get and is it very variable depending on speed? I have read that the 1.2 MPG can be in the mid 30's at motorway speeds.

I'm sure a re-map would take a 1.2 up to around 120 hp or more, which is about the same as the 1.4.

I have a 1.2 dsg too, and you are right it does depend on what speed you are doing.

If you push on, it can be quite eye watering. Over 900 miles of French autoroute sat on cruise control at 80-85 my car did 26.5 mpg. To be fair though, it was fully loaded, had bikes on the roof and the air con was on full, none of which helped.

That aside, it's a great engine, in normal use pretty economical and on the long trip, thirst aside, I couldn't really fault the entire car for it's long distance cruising prowess. Up there with anything German I've had.

In reply to the to the mpg question so far we've averaged 38 to the gallon. This includes motorways, A and B roads and a bit of town driving. This is over its first 400 miles, also really enjoy having a petrol engine again, so much more refined than diesel if not as economical,

I think you'll find the standard output of the 1.2TSi engine is more like 120bhp anyway, or at least it is in the Fabia.

Any hidden extra bhp out of the 85 model in the Fabia :wonder:

Don't want my good lady thinking she's the next Moss when she eventually gets hers :o
