Changing water pump...quick question

Featured Replies

Going to change the cambelt and water pump on my Fabia VRS. Do i put anything on the o ring on the new water pump or install it clean and dry. ?

Many thanks

Fit it dry.

I changed the cam belt and water pump on the wifes fabia vrs at the week end and I put a bit of rubber lube/grease on the "O" ring.

But TBH lube is not needed on a fabia PD engine due to the "O" ring seal being external.....unlike my 1.8t Octy vrs which has an internal "O" ring seal on the water pump.

I've got another cam belt and water pump to change next week on my mum's fabia vrs.........I get all the fun :(

Bill.

I personally always lube them, bit of rubber safe grease. Kinda of an old habit from Vauxhall days I think.

I lube them too.

A thin film of grease means they seat better and are less likely to get pushed out of position when the parts are reassembled.
