Paint coming off Brake disc hub

Featured Replies

A new Car Hand Wash opened recently, so when I wanted the car cleaning and did not have the time to do it myself, thought I'd try it, the one and only time I haven't cleaned the car!!

Well whatever gunk they used to clean the alloys as well as power wash them took off patches of the silver paint on the brake disc hubs. It also turned the plastic wheel nut covers mostly white (from grey). After a few weeks they have started to rust so spoil the look of the alloys :( . It took a while to clean the nut covers, but wonder what I can do to rescue the discs?

Has anyone else had this? My car is a year old and they were OK until after the car wash.

My hubs starting looking a real mess after about a year - light rust coming through. A wire brushing and a lick of silver Hammerite did the trick. Fine ever since.

I am sure this has been touched on fairly recently with some pics ??

Worth having a search methinks.

cheers will look.

That's why many avoid the "Kosovan Kar Wash"! They would have used a strong acid based cleaner like brick acid. Then a blast with a PW, the idea is to get the car clean as fast as possible with little effort. You also might like to view the paint in the low sun and admire the swirls they put in it with a grimy leather. :'(

my hubs are a little rusty too, need to get some silver smooth hammerite to sort out
