Featured Replies

Hi

Just picked up my 03' octavia vrs and noticed on the way home that the temperature didnt move off 50. What should i be looking at? Thermostat?

Thanks

Ryan

More likely to be the temperature sender, do the fans kick in?

Not sure as i didnt really sit in any traffic, il check later. Thanks

In my experience....

Car not warming up properly unless sitting in traffic - dodgy thermostat

Temp gauge wandering all over the place at random - dodgy sender

Both are easy enough to replace mate

Right just been out in it again and after a while the temperature shot up to 90, and then dropped back down and then up again, vica versa.

Although the temp never went over 90.

Would i be right in thinking coolant temp sensor?

Anybody?

Just need to know that its safe to drive until i can get to skoda tomorrow.

When my thermostat went - note I only have a 1.6 - the engine light came on, thats the only way I found out. With the thermostat removed on mine it ran between 70 and 90 degrees until it was replaced. It might be your sensor if its going up and down like that - but I wouldn't want to say for certain. they might tell you at the parts desk in Skoda

When my Coolant temp sensor went the temp needle would move about going from about 60 up to 90 then moving back to 60 again.

Other times it would sit at 90 fine.

I got a replacement from Euro car parts with the clip and o ring for £25, took about 5 mins to replace and didnt loose any coolant as i park with the nose up :0)

hmm i have the same symptoms but mine drops all the way to zero, il change it tomorrow and see if that solves it.

Is it still safe to drive at the miniute though?

I carried on driving mine, i just made sure there was plenty of coolant in there.

Changed the CTS asap tho as i didnt like not knowing what the temp was :0)

Im going to change it tomorrow.

Thanks to everybody who has replied

It may use a little more fuel but other than that rave on !!!!

Mine sometimes goes from 50 to 90 in less than a second. If you think about it logically, temperature won't change that quickly, especially if it never goes above 90. Will be very confident to say that it's the sender.

Yep it was the sender, got one this morning £24 took about 2 miniutes to fit.

Thanks for the help
