headlamps for EU driving

Featured Replies

Having to move to mainland EU for work taking the Furby with me does anyone know if I can do anything to adjust the headlights for shining the other way for over there or do I need to replace the units if so any ideas where to get them cheap cant find anything so far :(

I brought my Fabia 1 over to Spain last year and on my car there was no method to adjust the beams from RHD to LHD. To pass the ITV test had had to purchase a set of new headlights at a cost of 220 euros.

At least I'm not being continually flashed now!

if you plan on using the car in the EU for more than 6 months then you must replace the headlights with LHD ones and also register the car in the destination country. You cannot keep the car registered in the UK without a current UK address, and cannot tick exported on the V5 without it being registered first in another country.

You may find it more viable to sell the car here and by another secondhand which is already setup for your destination country.

I see from another post you are moving to Holland. Holland is a VERY expensive place to re-register your car and they take foreign registered vehicles very seriously as a lot of locals buy foreign cars to avoid the very steep taxation on local cars. Drive a foreign vehicle in holland for any length of time without proof of being a tourist could result in confiscation of said car if you are stopped.

To register in Holland your car must be standard otherwise it will not pass the local tests, then you must pay the local "Luxury Tax" which is based on the cost price plus extras on your car. This can be into the 000's of euros.
