Superb V6 Elegance - Good Idea ?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Am new to the forum and was looking for some advice.

I started out looking for a Superb V6 TDi but was struggling to get anything for a reasonable cost without moonship mileage.

Have come across a 2003 Superb V6 2.8 Petrol Tip Auto with 102k and full history.

Its priced at £2800 and I just wondered from the experts if it sounds like a good buy at that price, any specifics I should look for on the Superb and specifically if the petrol 2.8 is worth a go?

Cheers in advance - i'm off to wander around the forum now !!!! :smirk:

Hi

There can't be too many of these left! I had one which I traded in 2 years ago with 89,000 on the clock. Same year and model - loved it!

I'm no mechanic so had to rely on help here. Main thing I remember is to watch for any traces of water ingress, especially round the pollen filter so double check under the near side front carpets. Also - if I remember correctly - the cambelt and water pump had to be renewed every 60k - expensive!

The road fund I think for this model is now over £400. £2.8K seems reasonable as you will have very little depreciation - not like in the first couple of years!

I didn't find it over heavy on petrol - in fact there's not much difference between what I got on the Elegance when compared to what I now get with my Saab.

Is it a private sale or from a dealer who might offer you some sort of limited warranty? Any idea how many previous owners? Doubt very much if it would be a taxi as this model was always considered to be expensive if doing high mileage.

Best of luck

PS PM me if you think it is my old one - it had lots of 'O's and '0's in the registration!

I bought mine 06 plate Superb V6 Elegance from Rainworth Skoda with 42k on the clock and FSH for 9400 about 3months ago and i think that was a really good deal :-)

A 2003 model wont have a road fund of £400. I think that comes in after 2006. My Phaeton is only £235(ish) for the year and its an 05 pollution throwing monster.

My 2005 V6 Tip is only around the £235 mark and like all cars before Marchish 2006 came under the old PLG taxation scales with the max set where primey's Phaeton and the V6 TDi fall.

My car has just turned 139K, has never missed a beat with 38mpg over the long term and is a great car.

Sorted the pollen filter before the water ingress design flaw created problems and all the other niggles that can befall the Superb.

Not sure if I've made the right decision but I'm off to the dark side (Audi A8) so I'll be putting it up for sale soon - will be sad to see it go.
