Repairing sunroof drainage pipes

Featured Replies

My headlining is damp. to cut a long story short, my rear panel around the C pillar was cut and replaced after a rear shunt. When cutting the panel, the sunroof drainage pipe was cut. Found the amputated pipe behind a panel.

Dealer wanted to order a new pipe. Order? It is a simple pipe and all one needs to do is add a new piece or reattach the old pipe and bind em together. Since they are pretty challenged in simple solutions, I thought it is quiker if I do it. I need to lower the roof panel and have figured out the trim removal. Am stuck on removing the Grab handle. Any pointers on removing this or anythng else to be detached?

I sorted it out. Dealer claimed to have ordered "part" but three weeks later no sign. We have severe monsoons and the car was smelling like a wet sock. It was only a pipe dammit! I opened the trim and figured I could do it myself. Went to the local industrial hardware market and picked up tubing and a pipe extension piece

I pulled the boot trim and found pipe missing. I realised that the roof handle screws were covered by a couple of recessed flaps. Removed, peeled door rubber, removed tailgate roof trip and lowered headlining gently reached in and...hello!!! The pipe was melted due to angle cutter or the seam welder during the body repair.

Trimmed up pipe, attached extension piece and hose and threaded it through the C pillar trim into rear wing. realised the pipe I bought was a little too big for the "valve" in the wheel arch, the valve fell into the rear arch liner. The pipe was a perfect fit into the hole - what the hell!! Poured a litre of water around the sunroof channels and yes, the car is house trained !!!

All this cost me Rs 110 Including the bus fare or less that 2 quid. I would expect that it was cost less than a tenner in the UK.

I rang up the dealer and rubbed their nose in it. I don't think their noses can smell so it made no difference to them
