Octavia door open warning light gone funny - poss wider issue?

Featured Replies

Hi all - got a 1.9TDi 03 Octavia - all going OK but just recently the door open warning light has been misbehaving. When left for a while parked (an hour, say) if you get in and shut the door the warning light goes out but then when you start the engine the warning light comes back on again (along with a few others that are meant to) and doesn't go out whilst driving. Then when you come to switch off again the warning light won't go out for love nor money, even after getting out of the car. If you leave it for a bit as described above it'll go out if you open and close again but this is a bit of a faff.

Now, I can live with a light staying on (it's slightly irritating of course) but I was wondering whether this could be a sign that something else is afoot? I have had a scan around and the same issue seems to happen elsewhere and replacing the door catch seems to be the main solution, but I'd rather not do that if it can be helped. I am assuming that one light on the dash isn't going to flat the battery either?!

Any suggestions or is the above pretty much how it is? Cheers!

Checking the controller that resides in the drivers door for signs of corroded connectors would be my first port of call.
