water ingress also in Superb mk1 facelift 2007

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I just bought a Superb 19 TDI 105bhp with only 6000miles on the clock. I read a lot about the water ingress problem. But it is always the pre-facelift model.

Does the facelift model also have this problem. My dad had an audi A4 TDI 1999 and doesnt have this problem, normally this type of audi also have water ingress.

What causes this problem?

Regards,

Michaël

Welcome

HERE is just one of many threads / blogs that cover it

I know how it comes, but would they solved it in the facelift model (modeljaar 2006-2007)?

Is there anyone who has this in a facelift model?

Are there some problems solved in the facelift model that the previous model had?

No, the facelift suffers the same problem as there are only minor cosmetic changes, this is also not confined to the Superb / Passat B5/B5.5, there are are number of youtube clips about showing Toerag's etc with this problem - all caused by the bungs blocking up.

Are there some problems solved in the facelift model that the previous model had?

All of the problems that started life in the B5 Passat are still present in the MKI Superb, three of the most common off the top of my head are:

water ingress,

front suspension pinch bolts seizing up,

alternator pulley.

You need to check the plenum chamber bungs and the pollen filter seal on a B5.5 just like the B5's.

hi all, just new to site, i have a 2007 superb with 32000 miles and my interior lights have gone as well, can work by switch but wont work with doors opening but ones in footwell and puddle lights do, so take it its the same problem

Ok, thanks topic closed.

But what I think is strange is that where I live in Belgium I never heard of this problem. A lot of cars of the VAG group do have this problem. I read a lot of forums but this never found in a Dutch forum.

And here is the main issue in a Superb.

Maybe is because we have another climate/weather here in Belgium (less snow, almost everyone has a garage,...). I have really no idea, but is remarkable!

The main problem is the conversion to right hand steering. On a left hand drive B5.5 the water drain gradients are much more favourable and ingress is much less likely to occur, even with the crappy self-destruct waterlogged "seal" that VAG fit. I see quite a few LHD Passats and don't recall having seen a wet one.

It's almost certainly because relatively few RHD B5.5s were produced that VAG decided to take no action. They obviously don't give a toss about the occupants of cars and other drivers on the road who are in danger when the brake servo on a B5.5 is submerged in rainwater.

In the UK we also pay for a spineless quango called VOSA who will do absolutely nothing.

Rotodiesel it seems that you know almost everything! I'm glad that I found a real Superb specialist.

Even the dealer they only know how to replace oil and filters that's all. But I real superb lover wants to know everything.

All Superb reviews are good and even more then good. I don't understand why there are not more superbs driving in our country. But I have to say the new model is very popular and you see them a lot in the streets.

It looks like people now know the value of a Skoda...

Michael
