Advice on when to change cambelt & pump etc

Featured Replies

2005 Mk1 Fabia VRS with 64K miles.

It had a new "base" engine at 27K miles after the orginal became hydro-locked.

The work was done by a skoda main dealer. I presume the replacment engine would have had a new cambelt but what about the water pump and tensioner ?.

Im not sure if i should change the cambelt and water pump now as 65K seems to be when people do it although the manual implies 75K miles for the PD engine. Or should I wait until the newer engine has done 65K, when the car will have done 92K ?

Any thoughts ?

Change it for peace of mind?

at the end of the day its your decision :)

Base engines come timed up with new pump and tensioners, so no point changing it early

Thanks for advice.

Car now in the hands of my son over in Lowestoft, I think he'll be happy to run the engine for a while longer before changing cambelt. I'll just keep up with regular servicing when he visits.

The interval for changing cambelts is every 4 years or 60K miles, whichever comes first.

I think it used to be 75 or 80K (no time limit), but Skoda changed it, because of reports of premature failures.
