how much am i looking to pay for a gearbox?

Featured Replies

well my box has been getting noisier and noisier in first and second so thinking about pulling it and rebuilding it and firing a new one in just now untill i get the time.. now how much am i looking to pay?

i put a request on part finder been quoted 375 delivered with 02j code 59,600 miles on the box.

good bad?

for some reason my box has been filled with ATF instead of 75/90 gonna change it next week and add a conditioner for now.

out of interest how much from dealers ? lol

Are you looking for any 02j box or 02j EHA box?

EHA is the code for VRS box.

I have a 02J EPB box if you get stuck.

02J boxes range from £100-£300 for S/H boxes.

I was looking at prices yesterday after I had a shock phone call from the garage saying they thought I needed a new gear box :o (they've now decided wheel bearings :dull: so quite relieved about that)

There was one on ebay for £200 plus £50 pallet delivery

Reconditioned exchange ones were around the £500-600 mark plus £100-£120 fitting at my nearest transmission specialists. I'm guessing brand new from a dealer probably over the £800 mark, without the clutch, flywheel etc.

check the for sale section as there's a vrs being broken for parts

My 04 vrs with 125k had developed a low speed noise(more noticable around 40mph) from the n/s/f area,i replaced the wheel bearing & this made no difference so i suspect my gearbox is worn, hopefully you will be ok with a wheel bearing replacement. Sadly this & the worn suspension & cambelt change due soon was one of the reasons why i traded mine in today for a 08 vrs. I didnt want to spend a grand on a 3 grand (max) car.

thats the route most people take nowadays, nice upgrade though mate!

Cheers bodge. think am gonna pull it and get it rebuilt.

If i was in your position id have my original box rebuilt rather than fit a unknown secondhand one,as the milage is low on yours hopefully some new bearings & checkover will be all that is req.
