Dodgy heater??

Featured Replies

The heater on my vRS is very patchy. While cruising/accelerating it's ok, if I back off the accelerator I get an icy blast of cold air from all the vents. This can't be right surely?

I understand that Climatic works differently to regular heating as it will attempt to regulate the temperature in the car but why would it suddenly decide the interior it too hot and blast me with cold air as I lift the accelerator?

Is my car faulty or do others have this happen?

Cheers,

Mine seems to work reasonably well and I leave it on around 20 deg C so it pumps in hot air until it thinks it's warm and then slightly cooler air. I've noticed you get more air coming through when you're moving faster, but if anything, mine gets hotter rather than colder :D What have you got your temp set to, and does raising it a little change? I know sometimes moving it a little can change from boiling hot air to icy cold air!

Yeah, I've tried it at 20/22 deg C but I get the same result - really cold air from the airvents then a blast of hot air afterwards. If I put my hand over the airvent it's amazing how much the temp varies. My car has 2000 miles on the clock and it's done this intermittantly since new.

I understand that Climatic will blow hot air to rapidly warm up to temp and cold air to rapidly cool the car - hence changing the temp dial results in a large change in vent temp for a few moments. It just doesn't seem to work too well in my car!

As it's under warranty, I'd recommend you get a VAG-COM or the dealer to have a look and make sure it's not throwing up any fault codes. Pretty sure it shouldn't vary the temperature that much.

I guess one test could be to try it with all the windows open (especially in this weather!) and see if the air coming out of the vents still varies. Would expect with a stream of freezing cold air in the car that it should only pump out hot air from the vents......?

I've had a few issues with mine since the accident but it will be looked at during it's service.

Thanks Chris, that's a good idea...

The time I notice it most is when pulling off the motorway. If I open my windows whilst on the motorway (jesus that'll be cold!) it should be a pretty conclusive test!

Now where did I put my thermals?!!..

I have had the reverse - see this link:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/t16997-dodgy-heaterair-con.html

mine is now resolved - they replaced the control unit. Although, when they ripped out the old one, they broke a seal surrounding it, so now they have to replace that next time i take my car back.

Regards,
