Removing standard stereo.

Featured Replies

Did a quick search on stereo removal but only found threads talking about what stereo they were picking to replace it and not actually how to remove the standard unit.

So....

How do you remove the standard stereo? will I need a fascia adapter to put in my single DIN Alpine unit?

Also, best way to route power cables from engine bay into the cabin?

both are real easy

removing stereo - there are a couple of small slots on either side of the front. either get a set of removal keys from the dealers or, like me, simply cut a couple of suitably sized strips off an old credit card or similar, slide these into the slots as far as they go (but so you can still pull them out if need be), stick your fingers in the cassette slot and with a bit of wiggling, the setero should slide right out.

power cable routing - remove the glove box. in the upper right hand area of the space you should see a red connector mounted on a big black plastic housing. just above that, behind a large bunch of cabling, you'll find a small plastic grommit that plugs a factory drilled hole in the bulkhead. this comes out just to the left of the air filter (not the air box), under the scuttle panel in the engine bay. route your cable through this.

for a nice, easy picture guide check out robclubbey's pimp my skoda site, it's good stuff:

just realised your sig states fabia vrs. all the above is for the octy vrs, so not sure if the same applies.

all sorted now! :D

I had some kenwood keys lying around and they worked :) I removed the stereo agggggeeesss ago from my Fabia and I've missed the bass so much!

I just got the blade of a hack saw, snapped it into two peices, insert, hey presto! It's out.

Under the scuttle panel behind the pollen filter is a grommet you can use. It comes out behind the glove box. I had a problem using this method so heres a few things to remember...

Make sure the scuttle panel is in place when finishing up.

Make sure the grommet is in properly.

It doesn't hurt to remove the pollen filter and seal up the grommet with some water proof sealent - £4.95 from Wickes.

Clear out any debris from in the gulley.

Make sure the cable is not angeling from a high point down to the grommet, so water can't track to the grommet.

Hope this helps.
